Good read , and sounds like a GREAT product for $40 and a life time warranty...
I guess even Dan can trip over these and they won't break - except they don't weight 4LBs each - like that Shakespeare product.....

I'll wait for some real fisherman reports and reviews. They may be the real deal but I have never had my ugly sticks fail yet. (7 of them) As for they weight of ugly sticks, quit whinning all you little girlie men. :cwm27: They aren't that bad. (now the girlie men thing is only a joke, I don't need anyone wanting to arm wrestle over this)

Jabbed them trying to get lures back.Stabbed them.Never a broken one yet. Ugly Sticks are what they are ;).Mich

Looks like a nice rod Robert I'll keep my eye out at Gander for one, I'd like to get one with a EVA handle and not cork if I can..I have the worst luck with cork handles..don't ask

Robert the only thing those baseball bat stiff rods you have are good for is dragging lures behind the boat.

As for weight if 2 or 3 ounces bother you that much then you need to take some more vitamins... I like my 8 ugly sticks and looking to get more....:coolgleam

If you don't know about TackleTour , then I should question what YOU know about fishing!
:D
All you girls with the 4 pound fiberglass flubber stiX that have ZERO sensitivity , keep on singing the praises of something that is an inferior product.

A Marlin 30-30 kills deer - but no where as effectively as a 30.06 will , but they both do the same job (one better than the other - by a wide margin)
I feel the lure water & fish with my rods (which are not at all "baseball bats")
I prefer to use a MH rod for bigger fish , but I own L , ML & M actions and I use them all.
:p

Dan , you're too damn narrow minded to try anything new - unless like your X67 , you sit & see the results for your self! with a night & day difference!!
I'm willing to try new things and CHANGE , you're NOT.
You'll NEVER know the thrill of hand to hand combat with a lunker fish on a 13 OUNCE outfit coming to hand because all you feel is boing , boing , boing.....awww... it got away!!
:evilsmile

I doubt most of you jokers actually read the review - BEFORE your pie holes fired up.

So for people with a more open mind , I'll post a few bits :

Shamano is going for the throat.
The Voltaeus line looks like it is aimed squarely against the popular Ugly-Stik rodsCompare the LIFETIME warranty (which is over the counter BTW)
Shakespeare Ugly-Stik rods come backed with the "Ugly Back" warranty on freshwater rods which is 70day/7-years and a 60-day/5 year limited warranty on all other rods. How does Shimano's Voltaeus stack up? In an unprecedented move for the price point Shimano back's their line with a limited lifetime warrantyThere will be a full review soon.
The team has been fishing these rods for over two months now and while we have not completed our field tests we can disclose that the rods have survived a barrage of field and stress tests including fishing for Alpers, deliberate high sticking, door slams, and yes...even getting run over with a car.

They were selling the SNOT out of those things at the Novi show last week. I picked one up... they are super light and sensitive for sure. The guy selling them was standing there doing things to the rod that would have snapped any other rod for sure. I saw a LOT of people walking around the show with them.

I asked the guy to do the tip-to-butt bend but he wouldn't!! Ugly stick doesn't do that trick any more either.... too many people had the things snap and shatter shards in their faces back in the 80's.

I wasn't poking at you Bry....
I'd bet a dollar to donuts as soon as there's a bunch "in the channel" most common store will carry them , including wally world.
I'd bet GM , D!ck's & such will carry them.
Is there something WRONG with light & sensitive???

Now thats what i call one UGLY OUCH! lol
Thers always going to be a mraket for inferiour products, most people who fish UGLY's are once in a while fisherman, want to buy 1 rod and have it for LIFE, well as I am a man of change, i dont see the need for a indestructable rod, i like BUYIN up NEW gear, who doesent, if I had my choice id have a totally new lineup of rods and reel's every year, cant afford that but wont go the UGLY route either or this new competition for UGLY's ranks!

headed over to cleveland boat show in the morning..i'll look for them there...seems that de..likes it:)I'm pretty Jaded when it comes to rods...VERY picky about action, feel and a lot of things because what I like it's necessarily what most fishermen like since I fish for trout and panfish most of the time and not bass and other game fish. My Dad is also very picky and when I got the rod yesterday I handed it to him and his words to me were "You should order me one" I don't think you'll be disappointed what so ever with one -Bryon

Given your professed devotion to Ugly Sticks, I can understand that.;)

Jaded:

Cynically insensitive; made callous by experience

:pMy reasoning for using Ugly sticks was because they were durable, had a good backbone and were cheep and the UL had the type of action I was looking for, as a college student I can't afford a 100 dollar plus rod..more than once I said they weren't the most sensative or lightest but they served my purpose of casting twisters, cranks and spinners for panfish and trout, even more so when you added power pro to them, now I don't have to use power pro to have sensitivity ;)

The UL is the only one I would cast with but this new Shimano is something else

I would think 8'6" is a more common size - but I think they are starting out with around 29 different rods if I recall right Chris.
ALWAYS room for more!

i just bought one of these at the novi boat and fishing show and i love it. i used to have an ugly stick and i like it 10x better, its extremely light and you cant beat the lifetime warrenty. I put on a matching shimano sedona 2500 reel as well and have been extremely happy with it. shakespere is in trouble!

WOW, $40 and lifetime warranty...that alone is hard to believe. You can order them online, Cabelas and Tackle Direct just for starters. I'll look forward to actually feeling one
