My son is in the Army and found a deal on a Bowtech General thru their Military program I did not find a lot of reviews on it. Anyone here have any knowledge of the program and quality of the bows? Most of what I find is problems with the limbs is this still a issue? Is this a bow you would be comfortable having drop shipped to a remote location and being useable when you get it. There won'tbe a bow shop within the area so whatever comes in the box is what he will be stuck with. He wants a new bow and it looks like a good deal but the odds that he will get any warranty and service in the field are near zero so if he gets a peice of crap how will Bowtech handle it?

Limb issues were taken care of and no longer pose a problem. Bowtech has GREAT customer service and an even higher regard for our military personnel so any problems would certainly be handled promptly. The only concern I would have is whether or not the bow needed timing or tuning. If your son doesn't have the experience or the access to a shop, then there is potential for problems. The binary cams are a bit fickle at times and may need to be timed and tuned prior to sending it overseas. Once set, they are a charm. So that would be my recommendation- Have it timed and tuned by a professional and then sent overseas.;)

The timeing tuning ussue is just a nature of the beast...its not an issue with there product.

Ok thanks the problem is they will only ship the bow direct to his APO address so he will be stuck with whatever they send and he will not be able to tune it himself. Any shootability issues will not be able to be resolved where he is going to be. I told him to go to a local bow shop and get a tech to help him determine draw and poundage that will fit him. But the program does not allow the bow to be shipped any where other than his APO address which will be in the field in the middle east most likely. So the real question is if he sends in the correct draw and poundage will they ship it ready to shoot? It is a complete package here is the link https://www.bowtecharchery.com/military_discount.php
He has very little bow experience almost none and his draw lenght is shorter than mine so he can't practice with my gear. Of course the fact he is currently in AK also has a big effect on letting him practice with my gear as if he was near by I would have mine reset to fit him and let him play. He was here for Christmas and told me he wants to get a bow so we looked at a lot of options and then he asked me about this deal which I know nothing about. I have Shot Bear and Hoyt my entire life so I can't comment on Bowtech with zero experience with them.

Call Bowtech and talk to them. I'm sure they will do all that's possible to make sure the bow is in perfect shootable condition prior to sending it.;)

Great program and good people to talk to. Glad you dropped the dime and got the lowdown. Anything you think you can share as far as details? Might help out another one of our military personnel.;)

Well they basicly said the bow would be shootable when it arived. They agreed that my son needs to go to a good pro shop and preferably one that carries their product so he can test a few bows and get the corect info for his setup. As long as he gives them good info the bow will arrive ready to shoot out of the box that does not mean that it will be perfect and I was told many of the bases over there have archery ranges setup and he should have no problem getting help with setup and minor adjustments. The bows are setup and test fired by their tech's who install the sight, quiver and rest and will come with Carbon arrows and field tips. It sounds like a pretty good program it will be a couple months before he gets it and is able to let me know how it shoots. But price wise it is a great deal heck if he don't want one for himself I would be tempted to have him get me one but he can only get 1 a year. I will update this or start a new thread when he gets it.

A quick update he spent the afternoon yesterday at a pro shop in AK and settled in on on his setup for the bow it will be setup at 27in draw and 70lbs which is what the tech recommended for him. He is going to get a release and a dozen or so extra arrows to take with him and will order the bow as soon as he has his APO address for them to ship it. A couple of the guys he will be stationed with are bow hunters and one of them is also doing the program while over there so he will be with a group of guys to practice with they are discussing how to ship over some targets and making sure they have enough gear and spare peices to last a year of being deployed. His plan for the 3 of them to go bear hunting when they get back to AK not sure how I feel about him going after bear on Kodiak IL for his first bow hunting expereince. But I hope I can afford to fly up and join them at least he will carry a 12ga and hiw 45 auto as a back up though I am not sure he realizes how little time there is in a close range situation with a bear. He said he can't say where he has been but bear hunting can't be much worse than some of the fire fights he has been in overseas.
