I just bought a pair of Motorola Talkabout walkie talkies to replace 2 old ones lost in a fire. The package says that these radios can communicate up to 28 miles. I wouldn't believe that if I was out on the Sahara Desert! :dizzy: My my 25 watt marine radio rarely gets that kind of range out on the great lakes!!!! I haven't taken these out for a test yet, but I will be AMAZED if I can get 5 miles out of them. I know about the interference by trees, houses, hills, etc., and that is exactly what we have here. Can anyone else who has 2 way radios advertised at like 25 miles or more tell me how far yours actually work? Thanks!

i got maybe a half mile out of mine. Same thing as yours, moto's adv. at 28 miles. This was in the woods...no real hills, just lots of trees.

I have a 12 mile rated pair I get maybe 1 -1 1/4 mile with no obstructions.
With the 28 mile rated set I bet your lucky if you get 3 mile range.
They over rate those walkie talkies terribly.

Oh brother. Sounds like these will be good enough to help the wife find me in Wal-Mart.

My bet is out on OPEN water you MIGHT get over 20 miles. But nowhere else would this happen.

I found that the terrain plays a bigger role than the density of the woods... At home my land is flat and I can get as much as 1.5 miles in some areas but in hilly terrain, like where I hunt in the U.P., I'm lucky to get 1/2 mile and sometimes even less..
