Flasher on the River?

This is my first winter with my LX-5 and I have been learning how to use it on the lakes catching gills. How do you use or do you use one of these fishing on Saginaw River or any river when dealing with strong current? Thanks!

If it's so strong that you can't see your lure on the chart..let's say because you are using a smaller lure and it won't stay vertical...drill a hole 5 feet downstream and put the transducer there. You should have enough extra cable to do this and still have the flasher head unit near the holes you are fishing out of.
