Hello
I am new to the board but not new to Ice fishing. I have been fishing several Lakes in North East IN. But I thought I would try something closer to home (Toledo area) I have a friend on the North end of Devils. He said there are some shantys out on the ice but did not know how they were doing on the fish. Just wondering if anyone has fished up there lately. I was going to give it a try Saturday morn. I got things to do Sunday or I would try to make the Sand Lake thing thats sounds like fun. I have fished Devils from a boat many times but have not Ice fished there. Any thoughts, reports or even a better Lake I am game for on Saturday.

Gee, did you know they are having a big tourny out there in February. They might even have some openings left. Big money thing. You might like it. Capnhook

I have been fishing devils three or four times a week and can honestly say it has been the best year ever for pretty much any species. The bluegills are just starting to pick up but seem to be very scattered right now. I've caught keepers in everything from 6 to 25 feet of water. Early ice crappie fishing was excellent with limits of 9-13 inchers (smaller ones have moved in recently) Any drop off on the lake will do in 14-18 feet. jigging rapala or sweedish pimple mornings or evenings. Picking up a walleye or two in those spots incidentally to the crappies. Pike are roaming and hitting well too. Caught two keepers on teardrops on sunday. Starting to see a lot of pressure though with the ice tourney coming up. I saw some guys from out of town last week that had to have $30,000 worth of gear behind their quads. Hope this helps

Thanks for all the info I will try to put it to good use. I was unaware there was going to be a tournament on the Lake. Not interested in that sort of thing for Ice fishing. I have done some Bass & Walleye Tournaments on open water. I just don't think of Ice fishing as a Tournament type of thing.

I live off airport and Holland/sylvania. I can't go this weekend, but would meet up with you sometime soon this ice season. Ice got plenty of places to go. PM me if you want to set something up.

I would say Sandy Beach for gills and crappie, but it seemed that when the fishing pressure picked up, the fishing there turned off. We would then move towards the island in towards the group of permanent shanties and sight fish in about 9 feet of water. Never knew what we would see, pike, walleye, and some absolutely monstrous gills. Good luck.

What tourney is this?? Is it the one that goes with the festival, or is it a trap attack??

I live one main street over from you on Perrysburg/Holland Rd. Small world. Probably fish a lot of the same water.

Last weekend was horrible as on many lakes. Snowmobile got stuck 4 different times (even without pulling the shanty). The slush was at least 4" thick with all the snow on top of that. Question is, is the ice any better or should I just plan on walking out this weekend?

I live on Glendale and River haha. I'm new to the area...down here for school. Any recommendations on where to fish? I'd love to get a chance to get on Erie for some eyes. Drop me a PM if you guys wouldn't mind me tagging along. Med school doesn't give me a lot of spare time, but there's always room for ice fishing haha!
