I am new to the area and was curious if anyone could give me ideas for areas to try public land grouse hunting in southeast Michigan this December.

Welcome to the site Noleguy. There is some state land in the middle of the Thumb. Minden City State Game area is one but for consistant grouse numbers I think you might have to a least to the middle of the state. Say from Clare north.

Maybe a few in Lapeer state game area too. Much more up north.

Waterloo Recreation Area. Between Ann Arbor and Jackson. It has birds and plenty of state land.
