Hey Guys,
Im an avid fisherman and geting ready for open water alredy and looking at the spots I fish, I have yet to catch more then 5 bass:( I have not been able to find any books or videos on how to find bass. I have no fish finder and really no one to ask about fishing stuff. I know about weed bed edges and fallen tree cover and such but yet have had no sucess. Im starting to use more throwing baits like Rapal's and Gulp, Yup sodt baits and some Booyah Jigs. Any help would be very much appreciated!!! :D

Remember. location, location, location.
Watch all the fishing shows you can and learn from them. In the Spring think shallow. You need to be versatile in different technique and it takes time. By all means learn to use the drop shot method.

There are a ton of Youtube videos on various methods for catching bass.
Weed edges, sharp drop offs, points, ledges... they all hold bass. Shakey head jigs, drop shot, jigs, crank baits, and by all means learn how to fish a whacky rigged senko!!

You might be able to get more help if you tell us what lake you fish on. Or what lakes are near your home that you have access to. Someone might be able to tell you some areas of the lake to focus on...
Try typing in seasonal patterns for bass on google and do some reading. That is what winter time is for!
If you have more specific questions, ask away!!!(such as when the fish are shallow in the spring, what type of lures to use?) ect. ect. ect....

You Tube is probably the best also watch the fishing shows on tv.
Pay attention to water temp(especially in the spring they will be seeking warmer water), Cover like you mentioned but in the summer try fishing docks or Lily pads that can be really productive because they will be seeking shade.
I would get a rattle trap, spinner bait, senkos to start off with. That is what worked best for me when i started because they are easy to use lures too.
As the water heats up get some top water lures like Buzz baits, or Frogs, A Pop R. These can be great in the morning or evening and ive done best on frogs in the afternoon in the nastiest cover.
Like JNamo said look up seasonal patterns on google and it will tell you what to use and when, where, how. I only named off a couple.
Other people on here will be able to help you more.
Good Luck

I would try spinner baits or senkos if they are small ponds.
In the summer throw on a topwater and you should catch them.

it depends on how the bass strike in small ponds. i've fished some local public walking ponds and i would throw everything but the kitchen sink in my tacklebox. i've only caught a few on tubes, worms, etc. but i found out if the pond is good enough to see some shoreline going into the bottom of the pond throw some crankbaits. in the last few days of fishing that i've done i caught 50+ bass just fishing medium depth crankbaits (my favorite Bomber Model 4A). just need to find some shoreline and think about what type of shad or anything that would be around there that the bass are feeding on.

Too hard to answer the question completely with it being so general.
Time of day and season will dictate where and what to fish to bass.
Spring and early summer fish shallow and look for beds.
Middle to late summer fish deeper water 6-14 feet on average. Slow down your offerings and pay attention to the details.
Time of day also will dictate where to fish as well and technique. Top water can be boon in early mornings and evenings. Middle of day techniques often are more successful fishing structure in deeper water.
Remember these are just generalizations. Where to fish and technique will vary from each different body of water you fish.
Do some homework and start reading up on the internet and visit different bass forums. There's more to read out there than you have time, if willing.

Not completly true most are shallow under some kind of cover. I find more bass in 1-4 feet of water in the summer.

Could be. The waters I fish during the dog days, to consistently place $, are deep. Post spawn fish are too inconsistent in the shallows to concentrate on for 8 hours. I might pick and choose a few places to hit (docks/whatever)shallow, but my overall pattern will see me dragging something in deeper water. Early morning might see me in shallow as well, but my bread and butter is deep in the post spawn.

Yeah but if its a new body of water i would go around the shore first and look for cover there. Especially if hes just starting out bass fishing.
Looking for underwater weed beds and flats takes a little more experiance. But i agree they definetly hold fish too.

If I had to pick one way to fish bass it would be
A 5" Senko rigged wacky style (I like a 1/0 short shank weedless hook)
Green punpkin w/ black flake works all most any place
Black is a good low light color and smoke w/black flake works well
You can throw it shallow, in the weeds or any other place.
And it will catch bass

:yeahthat:
Its a deadly method.
It works anywhere except my home lake:lol:
You can cover a lot of area with it too.
The spinner bait on one rod and senko on the other. I locate them with the spinner bait and then slow it down and use the senko.
Black with blue flake is my favorite.
