great idea. Saves alot on cost by not building the entire sled. I wish my shappell had the sled bottom so I could have done that!

I don't think you'r going to like them, especially in deep snow,i would have used skis, just my 2 cents worth.

i've considered that woodbutcher and already have a back-up plan using the same mounts i just need the skis. no changes will need to be made to the work i've done on the sled. i need to try this first and see how it works. i for one think the conduit is gonna work fine.

ask tightlines we was pullin traps thru the snow and mine [with conduit runners] will actually coast forward when i stop pulling...the conduit goes right thru to the ice....
they will absolutely not pull across any concrete or rocks...like an anchor in a parking lot...
the other thing to watch out for is how tipsy the trap becomes...the taller the skis the higher center of grav. becomes...

I got a buddy that did something very similar. The main difference is that he made a sled to put his Clam 5600 on TOP of. He used conduit for the frame, mounted some plywood on the top and put some connectors on the bottom (to hold the bottom together). It works GREAT!! Don't worry about the skis, you won't need em :D

I made this 2-years ago... It pulls like dream through snow or ice! Even with 2 people sitting on it! Just my 2-cents :D

I made a sled last week to carry my Clam 5600. The shanty is basically a snow plow without the sled. A little rough on the pavement, but great on snow or ice. I put some pictures in my album, could not figure out how to post them here.

Put downhill ski's on my Fish Trap Pro several years ago. Floats across the snow pretty well. Or should I say it used to. Now for some reason when I use it I pack it full of things that I never used to need. Pulled it in and out of Mitchells yesterday to the end of the tree line. About collapsed at the truck when i finally got back in!!! I am blaming it on all the gear packed in it, nothing to do with the pounds I packed on during the holiday's. Either way, downhill ski's work pretty well.

Brilliant! I'm doing it to my Trekker. Been trying to come up with a solution all day. I think Bro Depot will even bend the conduit for me too. Thanks. Funny, they call me the High-Tech Hillbilly at work. You the man HTR!:fish:

http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=7592 Really nice job.Only thing i would kinda worry about is the outside part where the clamps are.Right where you have the pvc and the clamps holding it.I would have tryed to get a nut and washer in there. If it shifts it may crack where you drilled the holes.I may be wrong .But its still on heck of an idea .Great Job,Mich

I used downhill skis also but found they sank to much in the snow when the sled had my power auger in it so I made some wider skies, sorta like waterskies out of scrap plywood. Not the best picture but you get the idea.

I used downhill skis for my apparatus as well. I place my shanty and my sled on top of it. It folds like a parallelagram so it fits in my SUV. I recently waxed the skis to keep it easy to pull by hand. I wanted my apparatus to transport my shanty set up or broken down.
