Finally got away from the dinks on the lake. Ive been hittin alot of canals to find some better fish. Decided to hit cotton yesterday now that the ice is better. Hit one of my wps from last year off the beaten path and it paied off! Two of us brought home 32 perch from 7 1/2-12 1/2". Got into some jumbos with 9 over 10"! Minnows were by far the bait of choice yesterday. Dark purple tear drop took alot of them too. Fish were suspended about 2' off the bottom. Fished the minnows 2-3' up in 7 fow. Sorry i dont have pics. No batteries for the camera. Would have been a nice pic for the fishing album. All I can say is try to get away from all those weeds that have over taken that area. I found this spot last year which is a small area that has a mostly clay bottom thats about 50 yds across and surrounded by weeds. The small weed beds in that area have reallly gotten out of control the last few years and turned that whole area into weeds. Find the edges and holes to find the fish.

Nice job. When I came off the ice on Sunday I talked to a couple of guys that did Cotton & they said no one was catching anything but dinks.

Yes there is but get there early. i bought bait the night before for that reason. I pulled in the lot at 635 and was the 5th car there. The guys that fished there saturday said it was full by 7am.

About time someone caught some thing. How thick was the ice? Safe for a quad?

Ice was about 6". There was quite a few machines out. However, there was several soft spots that i noticed where machines have ridden over. There was quite a few open spot 2 weeks ago after that warm day that may not have caught back up yet. That area is also known for gas pockets so use caution! The access is in great shape. One thing i would recommend with the parking situation. if you have a trailer with your machine it would help out everyone to make the trip up from selfridge. It will also keep the residents happy without machines driving by their house early in the morning. If we want to keep that access open much longer we have to keep them happy!:)

Haha that's the one thing I haven't tried yet. I tried going to an old wpt about a half mile out and the ice started crunching a little. Kinda scary. Almost was calling help but for the wrong reasons. Just the surface ice though. Still don't know what cracks have been here recently

just be careful of the old/new ice border. You will see the slight build up. Its just outside of where I was. Dont know how much new ice there is out there. Just iced over last week!

Well we never got into em all that good. I was out with willietippit. He sat in the shanty when i went out and explored. he must be gettin old :tdo12:. finished with 3 keepers and some dinks (only fished 2.5 hours). he had a nice 12" at the hole though that got off. I dunno, i wasn't there to see it and I know it was just him and the captain together in the tent. Who knows what really happened.:dizzy:
