Hello guys I am going to put a windlass on my boat in the spring and I am haveing the hardest time trying to figure out what anchor to buy because the ones I am looking at dont come cheap..
Well guys these are the anchors I am looking at geting the Delta fast set or the claw or the bruce.. I need it to hold my boat in the Saint Clair river current and that means a muddy bottom.. I also would love it to hold well in sand as well..
Well my boat is 23' Sport Craft.. The boat weighs around 5000 pounds loaded with gas fishing gear ect.. Well guys my danforth with 6' of chain would not hold in some areas that are walleye hotspots.. So I am hopeing you guys can help me out and tell me the best anchor to buy.. Thanks Slick
PS...I want to come to Lake Saint Clair to perch fish but with all this anchor pulling to find the perch, I will need the windlass LOL!!

Slick: How long is your anchor line, maybe you need more line out to help the anchor hold better. I have 220' of line and use at least 150' up there where I fish. Thou my boat is smaller, the Danforth holds great......Bob B.

I would stay with a Danforth, say 20 lb+. And remember the rule of thumb with anchor line 3 to 5 times in nice weather and 5 to 7 times the depth for rough water...I would have atleast 10 times the lenght to your average depth you fish... Which would be about 250 feet minimum. Don't skimp on the line either...forget the yellow poly-propelyne!

The best anchor I have found is a C-Claw. It is a copy of the old CW that is no longer in production. When I bought mine the price was about $130 for the 18 lb. model. They guy who makes them is down in Englewood Fla. If you want more info, send me a PM.

Hi Slick
Anchoring in the St Clair River under any situation (Current) with any size boat is always a crap shoot; it hooks up or does not! The long line rule works coupled with a heavy and long rode (chain), but can be a chore when retreiving by hand for the size of boat that you mention. Its a Bit-h to retrieve in a 16' aluminum.
As far as LSC is concerned, the anchor that you have is fine but put a heavy and 6- 8' rode and you should have no problems and anchor from the aft and not the bow. Throw the hook in from the direction that the wind is coming from and let the line go out at least 70-90'. Anothr trick that works is to use 2 anchors from aft, this holds the boat tight over the fish and will lock the boat up. KEY = Long Heavy Rode & Don't skimp on the lenght of line!!

Let's sea slick fishing, your boat wieghs 5000# and you want to stay anchored in mud, sand, and clay. I recommend using a 300# grapel, in the river there is enough junk to hook onto. It should stick in the mud, and for sand, about 300# ought to do it. LOL
Give me a call if I can help you out with anything else. LOL Have a great turkey day.

Hello "no idea" Are you sure that a 300# pound anchor will hold my big fast boat in mud sand and clay.. How big a windlass do you think I need to haul that anchor in?
Hey I just thought of a better Idea then a windlass..I have this buddy that he thinks he a tough guy and would love to pull anchor all the time we go out, heck he carry **** up a ladder all day long he can pull in a little anchor in LOL..
Well "NO IDEA" I think I got it all figured out now thanks for all your help.. Cya Slick

Slick, I saw Gone Fishing's anchor and that thing is bad to the
bone and should work in the St. Clair River. I now use a 30#
river anchor in my 17 footer and I usually only need about 50-75
feet of rope to hold me in the SCR. I am unsure that mine would
hold a boat the size of yours but I am sure that the one John
has would do it.

Hello CAP'NJon I know what you are refering to and there are more than one of them running on the bottom of the river just north of the Marysville Boat launch.. The big signs on each side of the river makes it hard to miss LOL..Well tight lines and heavy nets and huge fish boxes.. Cya Slick
PS.. one more thing when you do pull one of these up with your windlass it sure does wounders for your hair LOL!!
