The fishing the last few weeks has been on the downside, but LSC outperforms every other body of water in Michigan for perch with the exception of Lk. Erie and certain spots of the Detroit R. You have to be where the fish are, and the lake is a huge expanse. I have friends right now that say "eh" at the end of every sentence that are getting lots of keeper and jumbo perch out of LSC.

so it sounds like saginaw bay except the walleye fishing.

yep.... once you can get to where they are at, its go time.

also, some years the jumbos seem to just push over to the american side more, and you can get them in shallow all winter long. the last years though its early ice you might be able to get them close in, then its the wait until good ice so you can get out there to get em.

A guy I work with tells me Mitchels Bay is usually a hotspot for big fish. I've only been there via boat, but we cleaned up. Hope to try there in the ice. Anyone else fished it in the winter?

Yes, first ice is awesome, then as the ice gets better they move around, sometimes to the west and sometimes to the south near St. Lukes.

Combined, the Detroit R., LSC and the SCR outproduce Saginaw bay year after year. Actually I believe just the Big D outproduces everything except Erie, if I remember creel numbers correctly.

Anyone have any recent updates on the St. Clair perch? Heading out there Friday with a big group of people. I really get into pike fishing when the water freezes over, so I'd like to set a tip up while we try for perch. Haven't caught pike out of St. Clair for years, I figure where there's perch there's pike, right? Tip-up worth a shot?

I was there yesterday on Anchor Bay and never had a bite all day. I moved six time's, out far to in close and had the same result's, talked to alot of guy's out there and said the same thing. I stayed all day and seen alot of people come and go, some would only stay a little while ( no shanty) and pick up and go. Long way for me to drive not to get a bite. I have fished there before and smoked 'em but not yesterday, oh well .

keep in mind that it isnt even Feb yet,we are seeing alot of nice fish down there but often they have lockjaw.Like Last year ,once the later ice periods roll around they will turn on.

Same type of discussion came up the other day. We didn't really get on the ice the last couple years until mid January or so. And then the fish started started to show up not too long afterwards. I was on the ice December 7th this year( you were right ficious )....that's mighty early if you ask me. Here it is the last of January and you're just now starting to hear some reports of perch here and there . Thinking/hoping it can only get better from here on out.;)
