It was on this forum that I first learned of feral pigs in MI. After doing a little bit of research, it looks like all you need to hunt them is a small game license. Is this true? Also, I don't remember seeing a season in which to target them. Could I get some clarification on this topic please. Wild boar don't seem like a desired species compared to whitetail and turkey here in MI and so finding info on them has been challenging. Thanks.

Have you checked on the DNR web site? And, there should be several msg threads on the M-S message board about wild pig hunting.

No, they are not a "desired species" in Michigan. Once they become established they destroy everything. Thus it is OPEN season on feral swine in the counties listed in DNR link below.

You need any valid hunting license to take swine..

Search this site or look under general hunting section.

Thanks for the site. After reading through the information however, I'm still a little unclear. If I read the information correctly, it sounds like you can only shoot a pig if you come in contact with one while hunting another species during the season for that species. In other words, if I was hunting turkey during the turkey season and see a feral pig, I can take it. To me, it sounds like I can't just get a license and target the solely. Is this correct? Sorry to be a pain but I want to be clear instead of having to explain this to a CO. Thanks.

This is new and most of the DNR link was to get information out to hunters. Since they are not a game species, it how they have it worded.
To be in the woods "hunting" you must have a valid license. They want to make sure people have taken hunters safety etc. and not just blasting away at pigs.

But, YES you can target them with any valid license. ;)

can you set out bait or other attractants?or are you only allowed to shoot them by chance encounter?
