Did some legwork today with not much to show for it.
Started at cotton, fished for about an hour and nothing. Nobody else was doing much better. Sounds dead. Ice was about 6 inches, clarity 3 feet.
Went to venetian canal. Ice 10 inches, access ok to walk on, clarity same as always like 2-3 feet. DINK CITY. It was non stop dink action (and I'm talking about 2-4 inchers, real dinks). Caught probably 40 or so in a little over an hour and got sick of it and left. Not one over 4 inches. Nobody else was catching a damn thing. Some one asked how I did and I told him what I said above and he was more than happy to take my hole when i left just to catch something. That tells you how bad it was.
Went to the DNR ramp at the end of south river rd. There were about 7-8 shanties there. Ice was a thick 8-10 inches, but I only went as far as about 200 yards from shore at the most. 3ft of water, clarity 3ft, could barely see the bottom. Saw probably about 10 fish, none were large. There were probably more they were just hard to see. Caught only 3, biggest was about 7 inches. Didn't check how others were doing.
