Being "American Made" (with "globally sourced parts") I have NOT read very favorable reviews of Ardent products - for $150 - I'd gamble less $$$ on a new Citica 200E which is a Japanese built reel , and it seems most reels that have flip/pitch options seem to malfunction more often due to increased wear and more parts to fail.
I have a Citica200D (Malaysia) and a Citica100DSV (Japan) and even though the lighter reel doesn't have the HEGs - it casts well and should outlast the other.
Check out http://tackletour.com/
and you'll see some of what I've read.
They do have a good warranty - but those are usually part of the purchase price.

Logically speaking that enclosed nose would and should be causing resistance, meaning shorter cast's with a higher rate of overspooling or backlashing?
With spinning gear the line osculates thru the eye's, as it comes off the spool and baitcasting tend's to be straightlining thru the eye's, where the advantage of closing the face off on the reel i dunno, it still has the osculation lineguide behind the enclosed face, and sence the rest of the BC reel's work so to i would guess this will also work, an advangage? I think not, more like GIMIC to entice customers to BUY, BUY!

Carl, it has a pretty narrow spool so there is very little "side to side" movement of the line. It's made to pitch and flip so it doesnt' have a big line capacity either.

I have 3 of them and they are great, I had the first prototype in my hands in 2005 the guy that designed it is a friend of mine from Texas, he was looking for some one to buy the rights to it and he finaly sold it to ardent, The reel is a Flipping Pitching reel thats it. It is built like a tank made for 20, 25 lb mono and 65 lb braid, I spen 8 hours of a fishing day flippin that is what the reel is made for, it has no drag, the spool is a 1/4" wide. The closed face is simple line off straight line on straight. The gimics are the daiwa twitch 'n bar, and the wave cast, If you guys would like to see one let me know and I will be happy to show you how it works.
Buy the way I have a new All Star Skeleton 7"6" flipping Stick for sale like new $180.00

the placement of the line guide carrier has zero effect on castablitily. theres a big difference between the way the line comes off a baitcaster and a spinning rod. Really the only purpose of the thing is to make sure line piles up level on the reel. if your max pitch is < 30', i suppose its doesn't matter.
sounds like its well designed for its specific purpose... still wouldn't pay 150 for it... 50 maybe.

When I decide i need 40 rods and reel's, 1 for every technique i use, then maybe a reel that is FLIPING/PITCHING only will come into play, untill then I will stick to reel's that have more than 1 use!
Any YA if im gonna drop some serious coin on a reel, i'll get anothe Q tour reel!

I probably carry less rods than most of the tournament guys on here and I know I carry less tackle, I have 8 rods in my boat, 3 flipping sticks, 3 7' MH casting, and 2 sissy sticks. I can cover every lure and prsentation with those rods.

I wouldn't mind checking one out if its not a problem. Ben said he'd like to see one too so if you happen to swing out Al & Bob's way on a Mon. or Thurs. afternoon that'd be cool.
I figured JVB would have picked up a few of these from you by now??? I do like those H & H's he's got...I think I might get at least one new flipp'n'stick too. Right now I've got an IMX that's too heavy, A Croix Legend Elite that has broke twice, and a Falcon Expert which I use the most. Is H & H still the way to go or should I just stick with what I've got?

Yup, warmer is better. It uses a pressure sensitive adhesive which works much better when it's warm.
