Im looking for information from any hunters that might have went up to Canada and hunted caribou recently.
My nephew and I are trying to get up there for a hunt but the 4 or 5 thousand dollar price tags are a bit out there for us. We can do a semi guided deal or whatever it takes if anyone has any ideas Im all ears.:help:

I've been to Quebec on a semi guided hunt. Basiclly we had a great camp setup for us with two boats and two camp caretakers who kept things running cutting firwood and things like that and also helped us pack meat into camp. Other then that we were all on our own. We had a great hunt and we all tagged two bulls per hunter with archery gear. The only draw back to that type of hunt is the fact that if the animals aren't migrating through the area when your there your **** out of luck. Other types of guided camps will offer to move you to an active area thus the bigger price tag.

My brother goes to Mirage in Quebec regularly and it's quite (relatively) affordable. PM me if you'd like more info (I live in southern Marquette County and work in Marquette). I joined him in late '07 and had a great experience - here's the story:

We did one in 06 with leaf river outfitters and it was without a doubt money well spent. From I have seen as far as the drive in semi hunts , the bulls are not even close to what you can expect from a flyin hunt. But also the price is more but with planing a couple years in advance it gives you time to save.
Captain from this site has a trip booked for this August and I know he had open spots to fill so you may want to pm. him to see if he filled the camp.

The $5000 price tag, is that everything included and is that per hunter or for a pair? Just out of curiosity. Something I would like to do someday.

We did a self guided winter hunt in '06. We missed the main migration by a few weeks, and only got one bull with a good rack, but we did take 5 others for meat. It is a awesome experience, and the winter hunt is approx $2200-$3000 now, including lodging, gas, tags, snowmobile rental. PM with your phone # for more info, Rich

The trip we went on was bought at a safari club dinner . They auction off various hunts and you may win one for 3 grand and if you go with someone ellse you just add the total and divide by 2. Evrything was included except your tags and hotel stay the night before you fly out of Montreal. With the economy in the tank you may get one of these trips very cheep and book it for 2-3 years down the road.

did it in 06'...what a gas....would do it again in a heart beat, drove the whole way, 32+/- hours in a blizzard, ice roads...adventure hunting for sure..and affordable...less than 2000 including gas, tags, etc....shot decent bulls, saw huge ones. the heard during the migration was 20 miles long and 40 miles wide....camp guide guessed at 150-200,000 animals...you can PM me for for more info...

I went to "Pour voirie donat asselin" (french) it's East of Mirage and was ROUGH.......if you want ANYTHING other than fixed heat and COLD COLD water for showers, it's the place..........we stopped by Mirage and it would be AWESOME for the money. I would recommend renting a snowmobile to get way out to get the Big boys. I would also say to go when the place advises you. the herd runs thru at upto about 3000 a day. For me it was an effortless hunt..........they are EVERYWHERE............fun none the less and the meat is awesome.................jon

just google Mirage it's up by James bay.......
