Does it help?

I have 5 myself. It does help, because next year when I apply, I will have 5 chances to be drawn, and six the following year, and so forth. Hopefully before I get to around 20, it will no longer be an issue, but have to keep trying.

I think i have 7 now. I have been applying every year. Hopefully sooner or later i will get drawn. Had a friend get drawn this year and it was his first time. Had another friend get drawn and it was his second year.

I thought it only let you go to 5, Then after the 5 you had to use them and then it started all over again.

Use them? How? I'll sell my points to the highest bidder!;)
I think it works like a raffle drawing. Your first year you get 1 ticket and your second year get 2 and so on and so on. I have 7 but your odss wont change much when 35,000 put in with only 168 elk permits. So I get 7 tickets in a bucket of 35000 +. Not very good odds

i guess my question should have been whats the longest anyone has put in for the hunt and being drawn or if ever? i have heard some first time applicants have been drawn which is cool(not really), but realistically I guess I need a math matician to help figure this out...if i am 39 and have 5 points what are my chances of drawing a tag by the time i am say 70

I'm pretty sure I will have made it out west to hunt Elk before I ever get drawn here in MI.
Got drawn on my 6th year for an any elk. I wouldn't worry about the odds way down the road since the rules will probably change again. But I wouldn't quit trying. It's worth it if you get drawn. By the way, there were several hunters well above 70. The guides accommodate them.

Ived applied 23 yrs. And have the 6 chances. Its a pretty long shot. But like everyone says, its worth it if you get picked. Ill keep trying.

I have applied every year since it started, I worked with a guy that got a cow permit after trying 3 yrs. his dad started applying when he got his cow and he got drawn for an any elk tag after 2 yrs. took a 5X5 bull :rant: A bunch of us brought electric skillets to work and he made elk tenderloins and onions for lunch for us, "EXCELLENT" Mike

I have applied for 18 years. I have six chances in the bucket.Ive killed two bulls a nice 6x6 and a 5x 6 with the bow and two cow elk.Idaho Dwarshack unit ten A, buy a tag first come first serve.Plenty of public land to hunt.I hunted the area 8 years and had at least two shot opertunities every time out.
Note.....If Michigan would have transplanted elk in the U.P. instead of the failing moose project we could have all been hunting them by now.
