Anybody try ice fishing on Spencer Lake? I've caught bass and pike there and have spotted perch near the shore in the summer.
Also, is there a list of inland lakes where non-VHS certified minnows are prohibitted? I couldn't find one on the DNR website.

Yea I fish it. PM if you have any specific questions about the lake.
As for the VHS, here's a link http://www.michigan.gov/documents/dnr/VHS_229816_7.pdf
Please don't bring any minnows that aren't certified VHS free to this lake.

I also Ice fish spencer park. They don't even open the gates until 10:00AM and that only happens if the ice in the park is safe to ice fish or do other activities on. Spencer has pike, perch, crappie, and gills. They can be caught on waxies or minnow. Jumbo perch are tougher to come obviously. I usually fish in about 8-10 fet of water. Spencer is an old gravel pit so it's very clear and you can see the bottom structure very well. It's about 22 feet deep in the middle or so. Mostly pike in the deep area. I doubt if the Oakland County parks is even allowing ice fishing yet until the ice is surely safe. They'll keep the gates locked off of JohnR.

Thanks for the info. Do you bass fish Spencer as well? I wonder if they bite in the winter......
Oh, and if you park on the side street and walk in by the West soccer fields (not the ones by the lake), the gate is NEVER locked. :)

Wow Spencer Beach! That brings back memories. That is the first place I remember fishing when I was a kid (Probably 4 years old). I remember catching huge Bass out there, but then again at that age they were probably only 6 inches, but they seemed big at the time.

I've seen at least one 5 pounder taken there. My biggest was about 3#. I did catch a 25" pike there last fall that was terrorizing my soft plastics. I switched to my baitcaster w/50# spiderwire and a steel leadered red devil and drug his ass onto the shore. :)
