Well managed to sneek away for a half hour today to check the ice on the big lake, found "5+" everywhere I checked  and yes I did take a line with me with a small rapela on it tipped with a berkley maggot managed to pull fish from every hole I CHOPPED!! by hand:help: dam that Black ice is hard LOL!! auger and atv from here on in.
Then I had a moment when I thought I was going down :yikes::yikes: , just hung up the phone after rubbing it in to one of my American friends who was at work when I heard this crack coming down the Lake sounded like a frieght train and as it approached me the water came up the hole and the ice started shooting hair line cracks everywhere with water coming up along them HOLY %$#%$## I said:help: and started making my way to shore quickly, shore was broke up pretty good but still able to get to land.

I have lived on this Lake my hole life and never had a crack scare me like that one did and I have seen them lift huts up. But anyway made it home with 10 nice perch for my wife and daughters dinner:corkysm55:corkysm55, never mentioned my near death experience and I still have some brownie points.

The moral of the story is that the Lake is making good ice to be moving like that and we should be good for atvs by the weekend.

Hi Doc
Whities and lakers opened on January 1 and close on the 15th of march, you are allowed 2 of each to take home. If you come for perch you usually don't have to go far to get the whities or lakers. Last year I was pulling 10" perch out of 80 fow while fishing for whities, only in Simcoe LOL!! There is no slot size on them either but whities average 5-8 pounds and lakers average the same though I have seen some lakers break the 20 pound mark. Our lake is stocked every year with approx 100,000 of each

Hey Dusty,

Me and two others will be there on Sat and Sun nights 1/17 and 1/18. Keep three rooms for us; atleast two. I cant sleep in the same room with one of these guys. He snores like nothing you ever heard. It really is unbeleivable!

We will be in around 10-11am on Sat so have my hole made like you promised. :evil:I'm real pumped about the trip; time to see if any of the hype is true. I look forward to meeting you and sharing a few cold one if you have the time.

Talk to you later.

Dave
