Went by Thornapple today. Unless you have a very big 4 wheel drive truck with chains on your wheels forget it. The landing is as bad as I have ever seen it. The rain flooded the landing and then it froze. I met a couple guys from the Lansing area that came all the way to fish it. There is room for about one vehicle maybe. Left my truck running on the road and walked out on the lake. It seemed pretty solid. Find another lake until the DNR gets off their butts and does something about it. The county trucks turn around there but won't drop their blades. I think a front loader might be needed if anyone is able to park there this winter.

I'm hoping to try the north end for crappies on Friday. There isn't anywhere to park other than the launch?

I'm guessing since you guys are ice fishing Thornapple you also fish it in the summer. I was wondering if there is another boat ramp or just the dirt ramp on the south shore. That ramp is a little difficult to unload/load by myself when the wind is pushing through there. I would like to spend more time there this spring. Thanks for any info!!!

Theres the boat launch at the southeast end off Thornapple lake road. You have to be an artist on windy days loading the boat.In the summer you can get in through Charleton park for a small fee (nice launch, easy in the wind but they close the gates early in the evening)or Barrys resort down stream on the river for the same. They are both off Charleton park road. In the winter you can get on at the end of River road off Charleton park road past the park entrance. That too was under water and iced to the black top. Not as bad as the landing though. I am going to make a few phone calls today to see what can be done to remove the ice at the landing.

The DNR will take your money and write tickets but wont maintain access for ice fishing.... just my two-cents.
