Should the DNR apply manditory antler restrictions on bucks for people hunting stateland? This would definately improve the hunting on all stateland across Michigan. This way, after the first couple years of antler restrictions the "stateland hunters" won't be able to (lack for better words) ...complain... about how crappy their hunting is.
I just feel it would put an end to buckless years for statland hunters....and it would possibly stop them from taking 45 yard shots at deer with thier bow, just becasue their on stateland...
What do you think?

Sure, go ahead and impose another restriction on the poor guy that isn't fortunate enough to own his own piece of land. SHEESH.

If they're going to restrict it then restrict it across the board.

In a lot of cases, hunters are buckless year after year by choice. Meaning, by their choice of tactics and location. For whatever reason, they are not taking full advantage of the resources available.
Not trying to brag but, I have been deer hunting for 30 years and have taken my legal quota of bucks each and every year. The first 25 were on stateland only and the last 5 have been a mix of state/private.
I don't hunt for the damn antlers, I hunt for meat as do many others.
If ya want antlers, go shed hunting.

I practice QDM by choice in an area size that works, I'm fortunate. I only shoot bucks 3 1/2 or older and like the way things are working out. But...I am dead set against mandated restrictions on everyone. Example, the new hunter who shoots a spike or any hunter that considers any deer they take as a trophy. Just because I hunt a certain way doesn't give me the right to expect others to.

How about we just keep improving our private land habitat and take all the deer from the stateland. Can you say ghosttown.

If QDM is what you are looking for, keep it on private land and/or those involved in your co-op. Not everyone who buys a license has the time to wait for the all mighty 200" Mega Buck and for those that do, congrats.
I cannot feed my family on "wait 'til next year , I might be able to get that QDM buck I'm after". My family is hungry and I'll shoot any legal buck I come across with my first license, after that, I can afford to be picky.
So the original question still remains regarding antler restrictions on state land. That question is left open to all state land hunters one of which swampbuck is. So, I say, if you don't want a state land reply to a state land question from state land hunters, go to a different thread. By the way, I have a room full of antlers you can eat..LOL

ieatantlers and qdmaer,
This time all I did was agree with someone:dizzy:. I dont care what you guys do on your deer farm, I started following the management forum when your guys started trying to push your private land voluntary program on public land (mandatory), Where most hunters dont want it.
Leave it on private land as it was intended, And you wont hear anymore from me.

QDM is spreading like Autumn olives. I wasn't mad at you swampbuck i just get a kick out of these replies, i care less what people want or styles of hunting. I fell into hunting good property therefore why not make the best of it, can you blame me. I remember where i started and the bucks i killed and just made progression with what i was working with. You can call me a trophy hunter but thats not what i feel. I feel that i started like everyone else but am fortunate to hunt good property where we all work together to be able to keep getting chances at bigger bucks.:help:
