It was caught on a closely moniterd lake that is stocked and fished whenever the big bear lets us. It is an Arkansass hybrid sunfish there is only males in there and this one was average sized for the lake. I think they call these big sunfish, along with redears, from the south shell crackers due to its diet of muscles and crustations. Should of seen the teeth on it they where not normal, longer and sharper. I would mount it but I am waiting for a bigger one, I will wait for another chance when I can to fish for them. I waited for 3 hours for this one seen three come up and look at my bait, they are tricky buggers but worth it.

when talking about gills, I don't think you're suppose to use the word "only" when describing the ones that go at least 10"! :yikes: good work!

But I actually think you have a MONSTER Longear Sunfish (http://www.google.com/search?q=longear+sunfish+picture&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a)....

If it isn't a Hybrid - I think the DNR owes you a record book entry!!!!
Better call 'em up!!!
NICE!!

Nice fish :), I always wondered with the perch decline in the sag. bay, and all the zebra muscles, why they don't try to get shellcrackers introduced there? they could have a feast and grow to a couple pounds.
