This is what I use. Just turn it on before I head out and stick it in the bucket.

A really bright headlamp works well and saves on space. You'll just wonder why everyone that fishes with you always laughs when you stick a jig tipped with a fat waxie up to your forehead

I picked up a UV blacklight LED that is housed in a clip for your coat at KD for less than $10. Works well.

I have a couple of the little laser lights made for this but have used anything from sunlight to a lantern to the led lights I use in the shanty instead of a lantern now. I used to carry an old camera without film just for the flash. I'm not sure if I can tell with lures but they used to say that the more intense the light source the longer and brighter it glows. I can verify that (at least with older glow paints) when stargazing in the UP a few years back. We were trying to use an old starchart that just wouldn't glow bright or long enough with exposure to flashlights. We tried the camera flash and there was a big difference in brightness and duration. After that every few minutes you'd hear "close 'em" and everyone would shield their eyes and the guy with the camera would flash the chart.
Maybe I should use the camera again.... maybe that's why I'm not catching any! ;-) Have to add that to the rolodex of excuses!

UV light is the best and the good news is that sunlight is a great source of UV radiation. You can buy an expensive ($100+) UV flashlight that is used at crimescenes and as "sniffers" but only a true fanatic would do something like that. They do work awesome...but don't ask how I know.

I use a Custom Jigs and Spins Nuclear Flash in the UV purple. Its the best ive found out of camera flashes, Norhtland, Lindy Tazer etc...The key is the black light.;)..Plus the CJ&S Nuclear Flash is compact. I keep it on a lanyard around my neck....always ready to go.

Camera flash. You can got to any place that developes film and ask for a couple of disposable flash camera that alredy had the film taken out. You can take them camera apart and use the flash units out of them. They are usually powered by a couple of AA cells.

I use a "SuperBrite" LED flashlight I got for under $10 and it works great. I have had light for nearly 2 years and still 1st set of AA batteries.

Some days glow makes the difference between a few fish or alot of fish. I have noticed I usually seem to get more hits after the glow starts dimming down as opposed to when you first drop it down, so I try not to charge mine up so bright. Been having good luck the last couple years with the glow red for huge perch/gills where the crappie seem to prefer the yellows and greens, at least where I fish.
