Is anyone pre-rigging jigs with leaders for quickly attaching to a barrel swivel?
I'm thinking of tying a small barrel swivel to my main line and then using a 2 to 3 foot leader on jigs and spoons tied directly to lure and then with a fas-snap or Mustad line connector on the other end to connect to the barrel swivel.
This will cutdown on the number of rods carried and increase the number of presentations I can test in a shorter time. I am wondering if anyone else has done or tried this and if it is succesfull.

I would love to do that on my rods but the problem i have is i have a spring on every rod and a swivel will not fit threw all but one of my springs.

I have begun using the spring bobbers and was thinking that if the leader was not too long you could reel to the swivel and then just lift up from there. How short of a leader (i.e how close can the swivel be to the jig) without spooking panfish is what I do not know.

Most of my rods have plastic spools so they aren't heavy, I carry 3 or 4 most days. This season I'm just fishing one rod at a time. I usually just change rods/jigs rather than retie.
Might not work for everyone, but it works for me.

I always take 3 rods with me, and keep one in the box so if one of the lures in the water isn't working, I'll tie a lure onto the third one, and switch. Then I'll tie something else onto the one I just brought up.

sounds like this could be quite a mess if you don't wrap them a round some kind of spool [ then you have so many spool taking up room in your tackle space].... lite line wrapped in a coil [headache] like other heavier snelled leaders[not to bad]????
my eyes are getting to be so bad that I try to mend all my rods the next day in the comfort of my home.... stowing several rigged rods is better for me!
I tried the barrel swivel before it add a little more weight to the fall of the bait presentation that some time looks un-natural to the fish.... the slower the fall i find work the best.....

I have a half dozen rods tied up with a diffrent lure/presentation. It works better than trying to snap something on in a hurry. Too many tangles and hooks getting caught in places they don't belong.

I'm going to give it a shot. This is how I store all my Walleye harnesses and fish for Walleye in the summer. Just wrapped around a clinder and then attach to a snap on the line.
My goal is to not have 5 or 6 rods to lug around.

okay, I've got a size small fas-snap on two of my rods and have setup a number of my jigs on leaders with a size 16 swivel.
The setup travels through my spring bobber guide (have the larger guide on the schooley clip-on) and all the way through my rod guides onto the spool. Should work fine if I decide to use longer leaders.
Need needle nose pliers to get the swivel off of the clip because it is so small but can get the swivel or jigging raps attached without them.
Packed the jigs wrapped on a foam tube just like crawler harnesses in the summer and will be giving it a shot this weekend carrying just 1 or 2 rods instead of 5 or 6.

I have a buddy that does this and he swears by it. Less rods to carry and he says the swivel helps reduce line twist. I have been thinking about a set-up like this myself. You shouldn't need a long leader for panfish. maybe 2 feet should be enough. The swivel shouldn't bother them as long as your leader is transparent.

I use 6 rods, I have a rod bag that divides and I can put 3 on each side. I'm getting ready to add a 7th rod, I bought a schooley rod at Dick's, I took the schooley reel off and I'm putting a small spinning reel in it's place..I have 3 set up with slip bobbers from when I'm fishing deep water and I have 3 (soon to be 4) set up with spring bobbers. I use a clip on the end for quick change. I have a couple of clam flip style shanties, so it doesn't really matter how many rods I carry. I keep all my rods together, never know if I'm going to be taking a newbie and have to lend a rod.
I used to do the same thing with my walleye jigging rods, that was until my son borrowed / took them from me, so now I'm down to 2 instead of 6. Same set up with a different black bag.
The bag has lots of compartments for all my jigs, tools, etc. That way I never have to worry about forgetting something at home.

Just found a better way to store the jigs on leaders. I'm putting them in a CD wallet, lightlywound up they fit perfect and I can flip through the pages to find what I need. Also fits a couple of those nice cases Harry ships in the back so I can keep the Zitz with them.

i have 6 rods all together. 3 for walleye, and the other 3 for panfishing, but i have used them for walleye... i use fireline on all of them and then put a swivel about 3 feet up from the jig/lure.... on the pan rods i use 2lb mono and use 6lb on the walleye rods..... but i have alot of pre cut leaders that i carry with me.... i used to carry a smaller 4 box soft pack tackle box, but i got a 6 rod guide series rod holder last year on sale at gander, now i have everything all in one bag. i put my 6 rods in the middle compartment and my boxes in one side, and the other baits and tools and what have you in the other, it works alot better than a bucket! But i change baits often and use the little schoolies i think they're called on my bigger lures, and just tie on the smaller ones........ boy, talk about being all over the place, i forgot what i was really talking about to begin with...:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
