Would shooting a doe with fawns, affect the fawns chances of making it through the winter? Seems to me that I saw a show on the DISCOVERY channel that said a buck will drive off a does fawns when he goes to breed her. Would shooting the doe be any different? Thanks for any input.

I replied that the fawns should be weaned (sp) by then, and I have seen them (by their markings) make it through the winter.

I have read that weening a fawn early (like in the case of it losing it's mother) actually has a more positive effect on a fawn. The reasoning is a doe that weens a fawn late will raise the fawn on all her familiar browsing grounds. Then when she weens it the fawn goes cold turkey and has to find it's own food sources. If this happens to late in the season the fawn won't have enough time to establish it's own core areas.
On the other hand if a fawn is forced to find food sources early, it still has enough time to do that and often times will just resume the area it's mother was using.

Now this one cracks me up....Wahl why do ask such silly questions? You know you couldn't hit the doe if you tried! Your Eyes go  , and you start to  , then you choke and :bash: your head against the wall! When will you ask for :help:! Her fawns are safe for years to come.
