Go to the bait store pick up some spikes. Next weekend spikes and minnows, next weekend...... So on and so on. So I picked up some plastics. Gulp Neon Green Spikes, and a mess of little grublike and worm like ice fishing plastics. I havent had the chance to try them out yet, but I will be this weekend and let everyone know how it goes. Is there anyone out there who perfers plastics over live? Please post your successes and failures and your techniqes.

I've been using Micro-plastics for three seasons now and the biggest key I can give is not to give up on them to soon...They will work and when you get the confidence you will be able to have another presentation to use when the fishing gets tough...It seems that I always catch the bigger fish on the plastics too....

Last weekend I was fishing gills and ran out of waxworms. Put on a ratso from custom jigs and spins caught just as many keepers as I was with waxies and a lot less small fish. Im now a believer in using plastics.

I always keep a jar in my fishing stuff. you dont have to worry about keeping them alive. great for when you run out of wax worms on the ice.

90% of my fishing is done with plasitic on the ice.
I use a nuggie and micro nuggie and caught just about every type of fish on them.
One thing I have found out is a fish finder is needed when fishing this way, Or atleast with the bait I use. Fish are bigger and less rebaiting.

The nuggie series of baits have been hot this year and like stated persistance is the key, they do land bigger fish. I would try sight fishing them to get the hang of how they work and you can see first hand how the fish reacts to them. Just the other day when the bite died I switched to burkley gulp earthworm and tore bits and peices off to tip my jig with and that was the ticket.

I'll second the notion on the nuggies....I've been gettin some nice crappie on a glow blue ficious tipped with a glow red nuggie.....

Little Atom plastics do catch a lot of fish...Finding that cadence with jig to get that plastic to do it's majic has caught even the most nuetral of fish for me....I like there Stealth Jigs too....

Been a plastics/artificial grub user for years. www.icefishingtime.com (http://www.icefishingtime.com) are killers on all PanniesThanks for that link I'm going to grab some of those..you know IMO when the bait is good you just need something on the hook, when their neutral they may not only prefer live but a specific bait like rather than waxies, they might want wigglers...anyways, I'm going to be trying Mister Twisters Micro Shad next time I'm out on one rod. I do great in the soft water season in my favorite panfish lakes for gills, crappie, walleye and bass, I don't buy minnows so these will be what I'm going to try when they're on minnows ;) Another good bait is Berkley Honey Worms, I've done great on panfish, bass and trout in the soft water season, preformed just as good as real waxies so I'll be trying those on ficious jigs as well - Bryon

Might have to look into the plastics, makes sense though, you use them in the summer, why not the winter.

Those tails on the site look ideal. I usually go to a baitstore in Brooklyn and buy the little atom versions they have several diffrent styles to choose from, wedgies look similar to the ones on the site. When you thread those on a horizontal micro jig it almost looks identical to zooplankton which is what fish goarge themselves on certian times of the year. Which inturn can, sometimes IMO, contribute the nutreal mood swings. Match the hatch kind of thinking.

Prefer plastics over live bait...no. I have had success using a Little Atom Glow Wedgee for specks after dark. When the bite is tough I go back to spikes though...
I like to keep a little bit of everything with me - waxies, spikes (can never find colored spikes around Ann Arbor), minnows, plastics, etc. The only thing I consistently don't catch fish on are mousies, for whatever reason.
Plastics can be really good for nuetral to negative fish, IMO. For me, sometimes all they will bite is plastics but if they're biting live bait, they'll usually bite plastics too, in my experience.

Can't beat it for 8.95, pairing these with original ficious jigs are going to kill I'm sure of it -Bryon

I have used nothing but custom jigs and spins plastics for 3 years now and have no use for live bait anymore. I also get bigger fish and can trigger more fish with them than I ever could with bait. The best way to gain confidence is to not take anything else with you. Lite line and very sharp hooks are the key with plastics.:fish2:

Pinching the barb down and opening the gap really helps as well
