Apparently, along with the gun ban, they also banned knives in Japan.

Now that they got the edible parts removed they can throw away the carcass.:yikes:

I think they were getting kicks torturing the thing, I noticed they didn't club it before digging in. Maybe they were cutting at the "spinal cord". Either way, still moving fish getting cut up and laughing, sick people! Makes you wonder what they do to the food they serve you.

You guys need to watch the Food Channel or the Travel Channel more often. Broaden your horizons. BTW, They are not Japanese. My Japanese wife said so.

The folks in the video are Chinese and they are getting ready to steam the whole fish in a wok.

This video shows how to steam walleye.

I don't condone pointing out the race of the people in the video as part of the problem. I do however see a big difference between the video I referenced and the video you reference. If you watch both videos you will see that they are not the same in any way. I don't care how the people in the video I posted were planning to cook their fish; it's irrelevant.

Yea, playing that race card isn't cool.......think about people who kill and mutilate others, they come in different colors.

That's a pretty inhumane way to clean that fish and frankly, I don't know what that person is trying to accomplish either. By the way, that language is not part of the Chinese dialect either, so keep guessing on the race....

How long can fish survive out of water?

Sorry, but if you clean fish (Or use them as bait) you are just as guilty of "torture" as the people in this video. Since they are cold blooded many fish live an incredibly long time even after filleted or gutted. If they're filleted they don't have the muscle tissue to move much, but that does not mean they are not alive.
The most "humane" way to clean fish is to subdue them with a club, remove their head before cleaning or reduce their body temperature to near freezing before cleaning. But in reality there is no way to clean a fish without killing it, so you'll just have to live with the fact that death is rarely painless. (The fact that fish are tasty tends to help me get over it quickly :D)

Some species like catfish and Bowfin can survive for days if the temperature is low enough and their gills stay wet. Bowfin can actually gulp air through their mouth and is one of the reasons they can live in such poor water conditions.

I don't think clubbing them kills them every time. It probably just ruins their nervous system. Smack a perch in the head and watch it's gills flare out and it shakes all over. Yeah, that's real humane. Keep hitting it until it stops. And I doubt if freezing them for twenty minutes kills them either.

A lot of the walleye and steelie guys I know cut the fishes throat when they catch them and let them bleed out in their livewell or bucket or cooler.

BTW, most of the fish I fillet are still wiggling. I like my fillets fresh.

Besides being inept at cleaning fish, I see no problem with the video. I do wonder about the people who think this is torture or somehow distasteful.

It is a fish and they are much more tasty when they are fresh and why would anyone would call her a clown is beyond me!

I disagree, I clean plenty of fish and use fish as bait. The difference is that I don't cut my fish up to eat while they are squirming because I don't need to. As for bait, I use fish for bait to catch fish to eat. I do not subject the fish I use as bait to any additional pain than is necessary to use them for their purpose. This is the difference between being inhumane and humane with the animals we use to catch food and the animals we kill to eat.

Cutting the throat and bleeding teh fish is a very humane way of dispatching a fish. The biggest benefit of this method is that there is far less blood in the fillets. Bleeding a fish can be properly done by cutting through the gills and putting them back in the bucket prior to cleaning. They wil be every bit as fresh as one you fillet while it is wiggling and will have far less blood contamination inthe meat.

You know if we were in a third world country yeah ok they dont have the education or the civilization to know any better.. I dont even need to explain any further because were all civilized educated sportsman, not third world country that like to torture animals with a slow prolonged death by scissors and laugh and video tape it . If you feel the need to take a live creature apart sowly with scissors and laugh about it watching it slowly die in your hands without trying to dispatch it quickly and humanely your going to have alot more to wonder about in life in your future.

At first I thought you were kidding, but of course after your last post, it is apparent you are serious. This the same kind of emotional response we get from the PETA people.

Think about what you said, people who clean live fish should be drawn and quartered. That would be torture. PETA people think fishermen get their jollies by fighting fish. They call it a deliberate controlled violence. That is an EMOTIONAL response. Whenever you catch a fish and keep it, it will die if you put it on a stringer, in an ice chest or clean it in a sink. Some people need to look up the work anthropomorphism.

I honestly have not but know they are slippery ones. I'd hope I could get in a good whack on its forehead or slice it's gills to bleed out before going to town on it with a pair of paper scissors though :dizzy:.
