Looking for some advice. Myself and a group of guys from work are looking to do a boar or ram hunt sometime this year. We are looking for Ranch's either in Michigan or within a days drive of Michigan. The only problem is none of us have never done a hunt like this before and wondering if anyone has any recommendations on places to look into.

Thanks

I have worked with guys who hunted the Renegade Ranch. They said they had a good time and all took a hog.

Here is an old thread:

Only place i have been. Absolutely great time up there. Went around 2000. Guys i went with have been there like 20 times. My great uncle goes to Renegade every year. Not bad drive from anywhere in Michigan either.;)

Might sounds weird, but we were just talking and we don't want to go to a place, walk out in the stand have a pig walk by within the first 10 min. shot it and call it a day. We are looking for a ranch but more of a hunt atmosphere.

That might be kind of tough finding anything close to fair chase on a hunting ranch, you have to get hunting out of your brain and think of it as more like grocery shopping in the woods. There is one up in the thumb by the rooster ranch,I think its called the trophy ranch,I have heard good things about them

A few years ago a group of eight of us went to Michigan Trophy Hunts in Chesaning. The hunt started slow they took us by the feeders and told us there a nice one, but we talked to the guide and explained we wanted to hunt. He gave our group free range of the 500 acres needless to say we all got our pigs and had a great time doing so.

I've heard of a place in Marquette called Bear Mountain. I was going to take my cousin there when he got back from Iraq. It is all high fence but heard they were pretty aggresive and tough to get. Let me know if you end up going. The web site is www.bearmountainquest.com (http://www.bearmountainquest.com) .They used to have web cams set up and you could watch the boars they also have other hunts too.

You might want to look at Sunrize Acres in jackson. I have heard that it resembles hunting. Of course the owner may be a little crazy and outspoken.

We had a company pheasant shoot at the Rooster Ranch in Ubly one year. They threw in a a free boar or ram shoot at the Trophy Ranch because we went every year. I decided to get a ram and it was a joke. They just stood there and let you shoot. Now, I almost got ran over by a group of pigs while out there and one was shot by another guest with a bow. He wanted help and we ended cornering the pig and the guide said ok watch out he is going to charge. That sucker charged right at me and I was about to bury a slug between its eyes head on when the guy said dont shoot it I want to get it mounted. Like I cared, this thing was charging me and going to tear me up, luckily right before I pulled the trigger, the guide dropped it with his hand gun. I say go there and do a hog hunt, they are really wild and fiesty, you actually have to hunt them. The guide had a scar from his heel up to his knee by getting tore up by one. Hog hunt all the way.
