NEED OPINION 8mm vs 6.5 x 55 sweed

My 30-06 broke. i need to chose between my german 8mm mauser and my 6.5x55 sweed. mauser. neither have scopes, i am hunting in medium thick to thick woods, and probably will be shooting within 100yrds. I have heard that 6.5 is the "ideal deer cartridge" but i have heard many differing opinions. all responses are appriciated.

both are great deer cartridges,the 8mm when loaded with norma ammo is between a 308 and a 30/06 in power!and has more energy then the 6.5.
