I just got a quantum accurist reel for christmas and I was wondering what to use for line. I have heard anywhere from 12-17lb flouro or 15lb braid. I plan to use it for a heavy bass rod and occasional light pike rod. Do you guys have any preferences as far as a brand? Any help Is appreciated.

thanks,

Pat

Depending upon your casting ability, either 20 or 30# Power Pro. If you have a fairly educated thumb, go with the 20#.

I've been running 30 lb Power Pro on almost all my baitcasters for 2 seasons now. Love the stuff. My spinnerbait and crankbait reels have P-Line Extra Strong on them.

I actually don't like Floro on bait casters... stiff stuff and it backlashes (for me anyway) a LOT more often than either mono or braid.

I have an older Accurist and it throws 30# powerpro just fine on a 7' medium action rod.

ok, power pro seems like it has a good reputation. Do you have a color preference?

I prefer the 30# for multiple reasons.

Really like the yellow I can NEVER find, b/c most often I'm using a flouro leader of 3-5' and the high vis is bonus.

I"ve got some yellow you can buy if you really need it Brandon... I'll sell it to you by the inch!

For heavy bass applications you can't go wrong with PowerPro 30 lb.

The only down side I have ever seen with that line is when you are in strong current and you get hung up on a dock or something...It is tough to break!

I just use the green. When the line gets faded, use a sharpie to make black marks on it...Look it up on line for more detailed directions!

Tight Lines and Good Luck with the new gear! Quantum's are nice reels:)
