Hi All,
I bought the new book in Oct and last week sat down to make a quick-reference chart for my new 3/8 hot-n-tots. (not rattle-tots)

A 3/8 hot-n-tot from cabelas or basspro has a thin blade for a lip. metal or silver plastic.

In the PT book, the 3/8 hot-n-tot has a thicker clear plastic lip with what looks like a bead in the lip.

The book's 1/2oz lure DOES have a metal lip like mine, but mine are 3/8!!!

I weighed mine and they're .44oz with hooks. without hooks they'd be 3/8.

Any thoughts would be welcome. I emailed Mark Romanek via the website last week but I don't expect a response.

Thanks!
-Jerry

Well, guess nobody has the book....no problem.

I think the book has an error and the wrong picture is in place for the 3/8. I'll post an update if Mark responds to my email.

Storm makes two different types of lips for their Hot-N-Tots. The original Hot-N-Tot with the metal lip, and a newer Hot-N-Tot with a polycarbonate (plastic) lip. The metal (adjustable) lip is perfered by many fisherman.

I just checked my Precision Trolling book and it doesn't even show the Hot-N-Tots with the plastic lip. It must be an older version.

I think I recall 7' of depth w/ 30' of line out (using 10# mono).

We ran 'em off 2 colors last year with 30-50' leads and pulled zebras in 15-16fow.

I have a chart that was sent to me somewhere..I'll see if I can't find it.

Thanks guys. I think the older versions of the book had the correct thin (metal) lip. In this book the lip is thick and clear like on a wally diver.

If I have a page that matches a couple of your numbers, I'll just put a star on it and remember to use that page.

Here's what my charts have for 7ft down:
7down-35 out for 3/8 rattle
7down-26 out for 1/2 (no rattle)
7down-7 out for 3/8 (with the clear thick lip)

The annoying thing is that I dropped 50bucks for the book just for this one lure!!

we used to run 3/8 tots a lot back in the days when the fish were on to them .this is the metal lip version. I remember that using 10 and 20 pound mono we would run 100 back off big planer boards and catch suspended fish that were 12-15 feet down. I have a fourth edition book and scanned a copy of the 3/8 rattle tot page . i can send it too you with an e-mail address.it shows a dive curve of 20 foot of line 6 foot down, 97.5 foot of line 16+ down and 187 foot of line and 21 foot max. draw that out and you have the curve. that should be the same as the regular tot too.

I think I have the answer.

DoubleTrouble - Your numbers match the rattletot I have in the new book.

I called an old friend who has the book, and he says he just uses the 1/2oz chart, since the lip is the same and mine weigh .44oz -which is closer to 1/2 than 3/8.

Thanks again!!!

I found the chart...it's in an Excel format that doesn't work well to copy/paste here.

PM me if you want it, and include your email.
