That may be the coolest thing I have ever seen.
I have been on Lake St. Clair drift fishing and seen HUGE fish come flying out of the water...I thought they were feeding Muskie...I learned a couple of summers ago by taking an educational cruise on the lake out of Metro Beach some interesting facts. We met up with the DNR boat out in the middle of the lake, what I more than likely saw were Sturgeon breaking water...Some speculate that they come out of the water to get rid of lampreys that were attached to them...
While we were along side the DNR boat watching them net and measure Sturgeon it happened at least twice...BIG fish jumping straight out of the water. Apparently LSC has a huge population of these elusive fish. Tens of thousands of them...80,000 or so sticks in my mind but I am not positive...
It was very interesting.

I took my wife, daughters, and MIL for a Sturgeon charter on the Columbia River, a few years ago. We went with a great guide, Clancy Holt - who I would highly recommend to anyone. We boated 25 Sturgeon, ranging from 30 inch "Shakers," to 60"+ throwbacks; because the slot limit was 45" - 60."
The fish fight like crazy, and we did keep 3 fish which were slot fish. They are great to eat.
80,000 Sturgeon in a large "ball" sounds incredible. I wonder how the fishing for them, in general, is in that area. We fished quite a ways downstream from Bonneville dam.

Many times I have seen sturgeon jumping out in the middle of the lake in the early morning hours. Out from the mile rds. (2-4 miles out) in the 16-18 ft area.
