The wife wants to take a trip this summer to see some friends and family in Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina. The deal maker for me was permission to do some fishing and hunting. According to the ole google machine, Tennessee has a year-round open season on hogs on private land. So I'm daydreaming about how to do this. Ideas like, should I take the bow, shotgun, or muzzleloader? How am I going to get permission to hunt private land? How will I process the pig and get the meat home safely? Should I go with an outfitter/guide operation or can I pull it off on my own? What are the laws on travelling through the various states with a weapon?

I was curious if anyone else has any experiences to share- good or bad. This would be a first time ever out of state hunt trip for me, so any help would be appreciated. The game plan is to make this smooth enough that I can start working on doing out of state hunts/fishing regularly as part of the family travel plans. Then, when my boy is big enough, it will already be a tradition of sorts and he can just go with dad without it seeming unusual to my wife. Maybe some others have already done this successfully and can help me out.:)

Thanks,
Chip

Chip, as far as getting the meat home safely it would depend on haow long you are staying with the friends or famiy and if they would let you store the meat at thier place. I know nothing of NC but I hear the pig hunting is vey good. Any time I hear abot Tenn. it seems to be better pig hunting in the south. I have heard near Jamestown holds a high population but look into it. I went pig hunting in GA. guided on private land. I did a search for pig density to find the place I'd be interested in and also called the Fish and Game or DNR or whatever they call themselfs there. There is a good population near the Oconee river. That is where I went. I was on the Oconee river. Also a good population in other counties, but I don't remember wich. Feel free to send me a PM if you need specifics if I can help you.
Good luck.

Contact the F & G Dept, local sportsmen clubs and see if you can get some help.
