Well I got out on muskegon lake by Hearitage Landing yesterday. Some spots there was 7 inches of solid good ice and some spots there was one inch of solid and then 4-5 inches of frozen slush then 1 inch of solid. I didn't have a problem anywhere I went. Hopefully the ice holds up for this weekend. Has anyone else been out on muskegon lake anywhere else?

No i did'nt catch any I am pretty sure it is because all my pike minnows were dead when i woke up in the morning so i was fishing with dead pike minnows. I went straight out at heritage about 50-60 feet out. I don't know how everyone else has been doing but the last few days has been really slow?

Hey Cobia,

I got out wednesday at the same spot we fished on saturday. Only had time to fish for 1.5hrs with 4 tip-ups. Ended up with 3 flags and 3pike caught, one right at 24" and the others undersized. All flags came from the same hole! Ice was about 5" with another 10" of slush and water on top.

Yea I get saturday off! 1st saturaday off in a long time, so if anyone wants to try heritage we all can meet out there.

Hey StStutz. Well at least you were getting some action. That is usually a good place for first ice that is weird they were so small. U fishing this weekend? Hopefully it doesnt get to warm.

Cobia, i'll most likely be going out saturday. Not sure where yet, i'd like to try west of heritage, but i'm not real comfortable with the ice yet and who knows what it will be like after this warm weather and rain? Good luck out there and be safe, maybe i'll run in to you again this weekend.

Yea that would be cool, I will keep an eye out for ya. I was thinking the same about the ice conditions farther out. For sure by next weekend it will be safe.

Hey! beercamp, I would love to get out and introduce you to some ice fishing. I have caught my share of northerns but they are not my specialty. I am the gil guy but I plan 2-3 pike trips a year and usually go to White lake or Wolf Lake. I prefer White lake though because I can pop over and catch a limit of gils as make it a 2-for-1 trip.

Shoot me a PM, I am off work until January 5th and would love to have the company.

Whats the news out a snug any more ice? Is everyone still fishing by the launch or are they starting to spread out a bit or venturing further out? Heritage landing kinda sucks I have never caught anything there and dont want to do that again tomorrow.

I've been checking Snug daily. There were two guys around the launch today. But last week there were 2 or 3 brave souls venturing further out. I have not went any futher out than about 30 yards so I don't know if the ice is good or not out there. Don't have a spud so I try to let other people figure it out before I get gutsy!

Well I went for a ride checked out Wolf lake there was ice left even shore ice saw one shanty out not very far. Was going to fish but it was very windy.
So we decided to head to north muskegon stopped checked out 2nd st what a mess, busted up ice, flooded, ice pushed up on shore. So we stopped by weber st its all busted up also. Half the lake opened up also.
So we went to snug at first we had to walk the plank. Got out to about
7 ft of water (200-300) yds out, didnt catch anything, moved closer in about 4 ft of water caught a bunch of dinks and saw some big gills they didnt want to bite. Walked off the ice and the water went down didnt have to walk the plank.
Ice varys from 4 inches of good hard ice to an inch of white 6 inches of slush in the middle and 2 inches of clear on the bottom.
Good luck

Fished Snug tonight. Me and a buddy fished for about 2.5 hours and we only got about 7 gills worth keeping. A guy about 20 yards behind iced a real nice pike about 15 mins before dark on a jigging pole.

4:30 pm

Just got off the phone with angler archers..........This is what he told me.
Ice off 2nd street is NOT safe. 2nd was open water on sunday, but is froze back over, but is slushy. Freightor (BIG SHIP) went through broke it up pretty bad. They seem to think its going to be another week to week and half before its fishable. There is safe ice on the lake, but stay away from 2nd for now.

Anyone else got any ice reports for Muskegon lake? or White lake?

went to Snug harbor, saw one fisherman with a few decent bluegills at the boat launch, and caught my smallest ever perch.
3" ice at heritage landing in spots, LOTS of drift ice that we couldn't even step on. DON'T take a chance on the frozen chunks of drift.
Hartshorn had slush you could push and auger through at the docks, lots of people on the ice out from cottage grove and harbortown, didn't have time to go out and see, getting too late. :fish:

Fished Sat 1/3/09 behind the Yacht Club and came in with 22 perch. Most around 8" to 9". Only threw back a couple (one was the smallest perch I have seen - I called it a perch minnow!!). When I was walking out at about noon there were guys coming off that said it was very slow. I headed out past most towards the east and drilled my holes and never moved. Wigglers and spikes on gold teardrops. Would have been fishing minnows but Shoreline was out - you heard right they were out of perch minnows at 11:30 AM on Saturday!! Wow.........

Ice was great - 6" of good clear ice. Not so sure about Cottage Grove as that was open last Sunday after the rain - but there were a lot of guys out there so it must have been OK. Going to be cold for the foreseeable future so the ice will be getting even better. No one off of Sand Docks yet - that was open last week too.

Good luck!!
