Went out tonite, walked out from the DNR ramp about 150-200 yards, was a little leery about the ice conditions and didn't want to venture too far out, ended up in about 5-6 FOW, you could see bottom but not very clear, ice was surprisingly thicker than I would have thought based on reports. There was about 5 inches of clear ice, 4-5 inches of junk and about 1/2" of water. Center of the ramp looked like it was open, but could have just been rain, we stayed to side. A couple dozen of dinks and about 6 fish that were borderline keepers. 5 minutes before dark we got 4 that were 10+ and then nothing. Then for the fun part, breaking down the shanty and walking back in the gale force winds. It was so windy, there were waves on top of the ice. Thank God we walked almost straight out, becuase most of the trip back to the car consisted of standing still and the wind blowing you 30mph until you hit snow. If anyone goes out tomorrow, definitely bring cleats. Worried about what this warm weather is going to do and all of the runoff from today's and Saturday's rain. It sure was nice fishing without listening to the constant noise of the sleds. Be safe. Merry Christmas.
