Just when you think it is safe to go back in the water again....
Er, I mean... back on the ice again. Yep, Friday may be the last of the first of the first ice fishing for awhile. :(

The rain may be a blessing....mother natures zamboni !!

I agree that all the runoff is going to screw things up... Hate when that happens...

From watching TWC right now...It looks like its only going to be above freezing for maybe 10 or 12 hrs sat so I dont think Itll hurt the ice any. The snowpack will hopefully suck up alot of the rain.... Not sure abut an inch though.

Ill be out friday morning too....slogging around someplace.

Except for the water clarity. We need to get rid of this snow. We are lucky to be able to get out as early as we did this year. Just remember we have over 2 months of icefishing yet.

We got too much snow too early on too little ice. 50's will melt that snow then a cold snap will refreeze the water on top of the pre-existing ice. This will give us a quick 4-6" of top ice in addition to the several inches that were already there. This warm weather is just what the doctor ordered as long as it's very brief and followed by several nights in the single digits.

I think we'll be ok. We have had this happen in the past with no problems. Think of march just about every year. Its 50 degrees for days in a row and were still able to fish it. I dont think its going to hurt. In the long run it will help. Good luck out there and I hope you all have a great Christmas.

I went out this afternoon, most of the snow is gone, the trip in was slick ice with standing water, a few patches of slush and only one or two patches of snow. A good freeze right now would be perfect. Saturday will make it look like a hockey rink. If we don't get fresh snow after Saturday, cleats will be required or at least preferred.

I dont know guys!:16suspect 50 degrees is okay for one day. 1" of rain all day long is not! Running cold water is the best way to defrost anything! I imagine we will lose 2-3 inches of ice saturday!

I will give up a few days of fishing to get rid of the snow which in turns gives us more ice when the temps drop again. The catch is though its supposed to stay above freezing all night and hit darn near 60 degrees tomorrow and in the 40's the next three days before the temps drop, so i predict the ice will take a nice blow and loose probably half of what we have but in the end the snow will be gone a couple days later you have 6in of ice again.

There is no snow on the ice by cotton! 4-8 inches depending on where your at. gets thicker closer to the salt.

I think you can say good by to alot of the ice tommorow. Not only is the high temp supposed to be close to almost 60* but thunderstorms along with strong south winds 25-35mph will probaly break up alot of the ice thats out there.Sunday is supposed to be warm also but not quite as warm as saturday but very windy.I hate to be the bearer of bad news but its kinda doing the samething it did last year close to this time.
Been wanting to get out before all this screwy weather messes up the ice but priorities have kept me close to home.
Aaron

Oh yeah....speaking of blowing

THE STORM SYSTEM ASSOCIATED WITH THE WARM FRONT WILL MOVE INTO THE
GREAT LAKES REGION TONIGHT AND RAPIDLY INTENSIFY. AN ASSOCIATED
COLD FRONT WILL THEN SWEEP THROUGH LOWER MICHIGAN LATE TONIGHT AND
SUNDAY MORNING. THE WINDS WILL INCREASE IN RESPONSE TO BOTH THE
COLD FRONT AND THE RAPIDLY INTENSIFYING STORM SYSTEM OVER THE GREAT
LAKES. THE WIND WILL BECOME SOUTHWEST LATE TONIGHT AND INCREASE TO
30 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 55 MPH. SOME GUSTS COULD POTENTIALLY
BE IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THOSE STRONG WINDS WILL CONTINUE INTO
SUNDAY BEFORE SLOWLY DECREASING SUNDAY AFTERNOON. SOME LARGE
LIMBS...TREES OR POWER LINES COULD BE DOWNED DUE TO THE STRONG WINDS
