I recently graduated from Gvsu with a degree in natural resources management (or as I have found-unemployment). Through some connections I was able to meet Howard Tanner, retired head of the fish and wildlife division of the MDNR (the guy responsible for bringing salmon to the Great Lakes). To say he was interesting would be an understatement. I was supposed to meet him for some guidance for a career but we mostly talked fishing which Howard has done around the world. Howard was even nice enough to give me some numbers for possible job opportunities and is working on a book. Pretty humbling to meet a guy that has accomplished so much and done so many things for the sport we all love. I know some people hate salmon but I know everyone has had a smile put on their face from one before and Howard helped put that smile on your face.

Awesome. He was a frequent 'guest' on the old Michigan Outdoors with Mort Neff I remember. A real legacy of our fishing history.

That is really cool man! Good luck on your job search. I'm an '02 grad of the NRM program at GVSU. I don't work in the NRM field and never did. Turns out there was something to that ol' NRM cree of "No Real Money". But there are plenty of jobs out there you just have to make good connections. The one you just made there I'm sure will help you down the road. Good luck!

They don't come any better than Howard. Have had the pleasure of knowing, fishing, and hunting with him and his family. Good luck Scoot in your future.
