Raft "meet and greet" For Tues. 23rd

I figured I'd start a new thread given the small get together between a couple of guys has grown to a bigger number, this way we can all get the info out that we need.

It's my understanding both Sly and Scott will be out earlier in the day than me, I plan on being there around 1PM...I also plan on only fishing the canals at this point. I will be out there with my Dad, he'll have on a red coat and black ski pants and I'll have on all black(coat and ski pants)

I recommend brining creepers if you have them just to be on the safe side, waxies is all I'm bringing but if you want to bring minnows you might get into the perch a bit better, that's really a coin toss though

Sly has my cell number and Scott I'll PM you my cell as well.

well.... i was out there and did rather well.... didn't start keeping them until near the end as I didn't feel like cleaning any but a buddy ended up wanting a few for a meal. I probably got about 20 7-8.5" or so gills, maybe one or two that possibly touched 9... Tons of 5s and 6s.... a couple smaller than that, a couple micro crappies, some thick sunfish, and the biggest dang golden shiner i've ever seen, looked like a dang tarpon.

good times..... the wind kicked up and then the snow came, made for a long drive home, thank god for 4wd.

We have all winter to get out not a problem. I made it out there punched my first hole around 10:30am in the first canal and stayed there for an hour or so. Meaty Man pulled up next to me and introduced himself we fished together for that hour mostly smaller ones but a few keepers. We decided to move to the next canal over and hit into a few more kept a dozen decent keepers for the day. Lots of throwbacks just had to weed through them. Meaty threw me one of his when he left...thanks. It was nice meeting and fishing with you Meaty Man thanks for the company. On my way out I pulled up to a couple guys in the parking lot to see how they did turned out to be Broken Wing and Iceman talked to them for a while. Was my first trip out and it felt good to ice a few finally.

Last season I was using a Glow White Turbo Zitz with a half a minnow, dead sticking it when I had a big fish just start slowly pulling drag and then snap...it was off. Talking to Harry he told me it could've been anything really, even dogfish so who knows...I know if you get them hooked right you can land pike on those jigs no problem even with 4lb line...I did it about 6 times last season :lol:

The roads were not to good. Coming back along the north shore was a little treacherous where there are no houses between the road and the bay. The southerly wind was blowing snow across the road. It's raining now in RO. It was worth it though. Wanted to get the first trip in and was targeting today or yesterday. I was hoping to do a little better but we will have a decent Christmas Eve lunch. Should have went earlier and put more time into it.
