Portage Chain of Lakes

Got some fourth hand info last week that the Gill bite on Portage Lake (In Washtenaw County not West side of state) was fairly hot. Anyone been out there? And has anyone ever fished the chain of lakes there and how'd it go?

I live in the area. I have never ice fished on Big Portage. I am not sure how you'd get on Big Portage in the winter. I don't think I have ever seen the state boat launch on McGregor Rd. iced over completely due to the current leading to the Huron River. Not sure where else you could access the lake. Maybe at the Yacht Club? Or at Klave's Marina?
