I think last year we had a post going on where you could get your auger blades re-sharpened at. Given the time of year and our economic conditions I think this might be a good theard to get going again. If you know of a place please post that info.

Thanks,
Remington

I was thinking about finding someone to sharpen my blades also. I have a Mora 6" hand auger. I bought the auger on sale for under $40.00 and the replacement blades are $28.00 at Bass Pro. That just doesn't seem right!

I shop around the after season sales for replacement blades for the following season. ;)

Put a small shim on one side after you loosen the bolts...it will change the angle a little bit and it should cut again....
I did it with my power auger and it worked....

The lazer augers have a curved blade and that curved edge must be sharpened with a special fixture to sharpen them properly. I just go to selfridge bait shop and they have have new ones in stock. This is the only place that will always have lazer augers and blades in stock throughot the entire ice season. I found that out last year when I was driving around to Bass Pro, Gander, and found that the only guy who had them was only 2 miles from me. Live and learn.

i bought one saturday. Used it that night for Sunday morning. Still wont cut very good. it helped but not worth the 8 bucks IMO. Just go spend the $10 to get them resharpened and it should last the season.

What is it that the 'professional' blade sharpeners have in hardware stores that we can't learn to do ourselves. I have heard that Laser blades can only be 'factory' sharpened, but I just find it hard to believe that there is some 'super jig' somewhere that all these folks have, the we can't get. Am I all wet?

I equate Pro with Experience!!!
And I don't go to a hardware store I go to a place that specializes in sharpening cutlery.
Go where the butchers go!!!

Just spoke to johns cutlery on Jefferson in chesterfield and was told they do Not sharpen auger blades. They are looking for a machine to do it though and to check back later. I probably have 2-3 sets hanging around myself.

I dropped off my blades at Robinson's Saw Service (between 23 & 24 mile and old VanDyke in Utica) this afternoon. I spoke with Ken the owner and he said he has been sharpening all kinds of auger blades for years with no complaints. Seems like a really nice guy and said you do need some specialized tooling to do it right. He is charging $7.00 for a set of 6" laser blades. I am picking them up tomorrow morning and should be testing them out on Friday...I'll let everyone how they work. His phone number is 586-731-7175 if you want to contact him directly.

RemingtonHe does a great job there, so good in fact, we didnt have to take them in this year to have them done. We have had both our mora & lazer blades done by him & no complaints, very satisfied, thats why I mentioned him.
