In the last 2 weeks I was able to harvest a 7 point and button buck whitetail. My 9 year old son dropped his first deer last night (button buck), a spike elk on wednesday (after 4 months of hunting almost every day) and 4 greater prairie chickens (first for me). I had missed a 6 x 6 elk 2 weeks ago and he was removed from the herd by another hunter monday. Spike weighed in at 440 lbs though. The deer were 138 lbs, 69 lbs and 60 lbs repectively.
I am a Michigan resident serving in the Army and stationed in Kansas. Was my first time putting in for an elk tag and got an "any elk." They estimate there are only 125 elk in Kansas and I was one of 10 to get a "any elk" tag. Did play the lotto that night, but no luck.
Along with 70 ducks, a few geese (including my first Speck), 6 turkey and 8 lbs of morals '08 has been a good year.
