Got out yesterday and made one call. We pulled a male in just before dark and piled him up. Started the call with 30 minutes of rabbit squealing and bird sounds in hopes to see a fox. Waited a bit and tried a fox in distress, still nothing. With 20 minutes of light left I started to howl. I kept it up for ten minutes then used a rabbit distress for 30 seconds then right to pup in distress. Something on the tree line looked different so I pulled up the rifle to take a peek, nothing. I set the rifle down and reached for the remote, as I looked up there's a yote fifty yards out in the Field. Man that was fast. I wait for my Buddie to shoot but I hear nothing, he's looking the other way. This guy decides to come further into the Field, I'm thinking to move in for the kill, but not. He's leaving and in somewhat of a hurry. He offers me a crossing shot at about 225 yards, so I bark trying to stop him. He did for only a fleeting second and again was on the move. With the distance between us growing rapidly I put the cross hair on his nose and let it rip. He stumbled some but kept on going at some what of a slower rate. I hit him in the front leg at the joint and nearly severed it. A little low due to the distance I suspect. I shoot again and miss. He's now about 75 yards farther out when he starts to spin dough nuts in the snow. After his third burnout I finally got the scope on him, elevated a bit for distance and planted him. He really looked liked a pup with the short tail and perfectly white teeth and no chips to the points, but the weight told a different story. This guy came in around 33 pounds. A year and a half I'd expect. I was down state south of Battle Creek and had no camera, but my Buddie took some with his digital. Will post one if he gets them emailed to me.
