Where I expect your going, pretty simple. Small teardrop, last year I had good luck with greens and chartruese. Pinks and orange have been good too. I have also done well with black/purple when the sun is high and bright. Tip it with a waxie or spike, and drop it down to bottom. I usually fish a foot or 2 from bottom, but sometimes they are right on bottom, sometimes half way down suspended. Light line, I usually fish 2#.

1 or 2 # test line
hand full of tear drops
spring bobber, or a float bobber
waxies/mousies/spikes(bait)
lake with a reputation of good pan fishing

best lure?
Hali Sukkula (sp?) 35 mm with a chain hook
Deadly
Not only will it catch pan fish; but every other fish within sight of it will hit it as well.
Tip with a minnow or a wax, spike, booger, whatever. These things catch fish. period.

It depends on the species, lake, weather, moon cycle and probably your wifes cycle (if it coincides with any other regular monthy event). There is never one answer.

Very light line, limber rod or spring bobber, my special ice flies tipped with nothing, constant jigging barely moving the spring bobber so the fly flutters in the water driving the panfish crazy, and oh I almost forgot electronics make a world of difference.

If you dont have a fish finder you should make the investment. Since I got mine like 6 years ago I have learned plenty. When you know the fish are down there it is a matter of jig color, size, shape, weight for vibrations or bait selection ie. spikes, mousies, wax worms, red spikes etc. Eventually when you go to certain lakes you know, you immediatly know what color to use, if the fish arent biting then maybe its due to a high barometric pressure. Ive found a black 3mm fiskas is a great all around jig.
Bending glass and kicking ass.

I agree, but the one thing I would add to the arsonal would be plain gold tear drop. Sometimes gold is money out there ;) and is my go to tear drop when the fish get lock jaw.

What is the best lure or method for catching panfish through the ice?
A pole, a hole, a jig, a wax worm, a beer, a buddy to drink beer with, and a heater to keep your toes warm, thats my fishing recipe seems to work for me!

I totally agree those things have caught me some nice panfish, also some big nasty bass and pike. Dont use them if you dont want to catch everything in the lake beacuse you will.
