So in looking for new things to try every year. I picked up carp fishing!! Now that the DNR made me able to fish 3 rods I figred I would give pike a shot from shore while fishing carp.

Anyone had any luck with doing this, I would perfer live/dead bait so I can sit back and enjoy a drink and some food while doing so.

Thanks

Dave

well, I usually use creek chubs/shiners under a large bobber. other than at, look at the thread at the bottom of this post that I started earlier this year.

I use large shiners, suckers, chubs under a bobber about 3-4 feet from bottom. Get ready to catch bass too.

Crazy as it sounds use bread balls. We use to catch tons of carp when I was a kid.1/2 ounce sinker 12 inches up the line.

Hi Dave. I think its kind of time of year/location dependent. They'll be shallower in spring/fall so those times might be your best bets from shore. Unless you know a good spot that's deeper with maybe some structure. In my pike spots I don't fish from shore, but I fish to shore. If I could get to them by foot, I probably wood. Set up is super simple...big fat sucker minnow on a hook under a big (baseball size?) bobber. Just let it sit and let that minnow swim it around. If there are pike around, they'll find it.

Its a good technique for barley pops. Just a corner of an eye on the bobber, if that. Just to watch for it start to move erraticly meaning the minnow is getting nervous. I keep the bail open, let the pike take it down for a while, close bail, reel in slack and then set. Its a blast. Good luck and feel free to PM if you have more questions.

When you go to the river in the spring, I have found it fun to catch some crawfish and cast em out, never know what your gonna get but it doesn't take long! For pike, a decent shiner, with or without a bobber, just cast with the current. Good luck!

I use a bobber and fish under it chubs and golden shiners that I catch on hotdogs in little creeks (5-8 inchers). Use heavy mono and u'll catch much more fish than with wire. Use 40-80# as a bite leader and fluorocarbon if it's real clear and u don't mind spending the money. I've actually only had wire break on me...never the mono...just change it when it gets real chewed up. don't forget a couple split shot to hinder the bait from running away from the fish.
