A fair amount of fishing activity on the shallow cuts, plenty of ice and it will only continue developing over the next 10 days. The season has begun.

Went out yesterday on the West side of Houghton Lake. There was 5" of ice. I didn't stay long... 16 mph winds gusting to 30 mph 16 degrees and at times there was white out conditions. Not a lot fun for the first time out. But there will be better days coming.

Lots of snow fell in the Cadillac area overnight, and more expected through the day. Already had 8-12inches on the ground. Watch the ice with all of this snow.

Drove up to Houghton Lake yesterday. Lymans reports 7". About a dozen shanties straight out from them. Saw a shanty and a few guys out from the S. shore DNR launch.

I was fishing off Townline yesterday and the ice was anywhere from 5" to 8". Might drive the quad out by next week.

Doesnt sound like there will be any "No Ice" issues for Tip-Up-Town this year! :D

As of yesterday,Tawas Lake had 5.5 to 6" of good ice. However, towards the southern end of the lake(where the DNR launch is) the ice was unsafe.......helped retieve a fella that went through.

The southwest end of Lake Cadillac has around 8-9inches of ice with about 5-6inches of light snow on top. Most of the ice is the white cloudy ice.

We have a good 10 in. of ice and making more by the minute... there were three quads riding all around too..... i walked out a quarter mile from the marina on the first lake, i only made 2 moves and fished from 3 til 6:30 and didn't even get a nibble..... i only made it to 5 ft. i was trying to make it to the edge of the 10 ft hole but i didnt make it..... the old hand auger is a pain in the ass so that was all i had in me to drill!!!!!!!!!!

After the rain from last weekend there is around 8-9inches of ice and there was very little or no snow on the lake. The causeway is has the thickest ice that I know of and I really do not know how the rest of the lake is doing. Cadillac area got around 4.5inches of snow on the lake over night too. Always be safe and check the ice.

Van Ettan lake has around 8" as of jan 1st. At least now we can get on it unlike earlier this week when you had to wade through the water to get on the ice LOL!

Just got back from Black Lake---8 1/2 inches of ice, with only about an inch or so of the top pretty crusty from last weeks thaw. Me and a buddy picked up 8 eyes in two nights of fishin on tip ups in 13 to 16 feet of water,

I drove through Cadillac twice this weekend and saw dozens of people all over the lake, tons of quads, snomobiles, and several SUVs and full size pick ups, especially along the causeway area. Ice thickness according to the bait shop is a foot or better on the majority of both lakes and subzero temps over the next few days will only make the ice better.

Just got back from Fletchers Floodings. The ice is good at 13". Lot's of full size trucks far out on the ice. Didn't do much as far a the fishing. Couple pike, couple bass, and a douzen Gills / Perch.
