every year i send off a bunch of letters and emails to all the different lure makers. i ask for sugjestions and information on using their lures. tell them the type of fish im after. stuff like that. a few weeks later i usually start getting little surprise packages in the mail. some sample mepps spinners, daredevils, swivels, leaders, all sorts of things. as these samples come in i get to dream a little about how i'll try them out come spring.
it works with just about any company , rod companies will send you coupons, you never know . sort of a fun adventure with every letter you send out.

Nice - I should try writing PlayBoy, maybe they'll send a bunny, or write Jack Daniels, or Omaha Steaks....

Well, I've sent 3 emails out so far today! What a great way to spend my day off!!

I've been thanking them for making a great product, giving them success story or two based on their product, and wishing them continued success. Oh, and I've been signing them with my name AND address! But I've not asked for a single thing in return. We'll wait and see what comes of it.

I think I'll buy some stamps too... not all the companies I've been looking up have readily available email addresses.

I tried this last year and didn't have so much luck. Just a hat from one place. I sent half page-page letters to about 8 different manufacturers with pictures of me using their products in some....cheap skates!

I used to write beer companies (when I was 12yrs.old) and ask them for stickers and patches. They always responded positively.

I should have anticipated the acquired taste...

i think its sort of how you right the letter. i always approach it as a new potential customer that knows nothing and is asking their advice.
if you tell them you already use their stuff...most you might get is a coupon id guess.
anyway,, its fun to dream and think about fishing even if you don't get a freebie.
and as for the playboy idea,,, welll, momma wouldn't sign for the package anyway,,, and ups won't leave it on my porch....
