After using a friends ice machine from lowrance (x 67c) i was just wondering why anyone would buy anything else? its cheaper than vex at about 300$ and has the best of both worlds with a flasher and my favorite the color graph. maybe im missing some things it cant do the more expensive units can? are there any complaints from anyone about it?

It has always been about the real time, no lag, when you move your lure. zercom had a lcd flasher that was ok and then lowrance introduced their unit which has proved itself the last couple years. If you already have something,it's hard to justify buying something else thats not going to do anything better, just maybe different. Personally I like the flasher just because I am so used to them and something different would take some time getting used too, can you catch more fish using one over the other? probally not. it's all about presentation and location. In other words if your unit of choice shows the fish and how they react to your presentation it does not matter after that.:)
I have both. I guess the main reason I use the vex more is that I'm simply used to it. Many years of old habbits are hard to break.

The reason why a lot of people spend more money on an inferior unit, is lack of knowledge or willingness to use something newer.
A peer pressure of sorts exists. A lot of people have old spinning wheel flasher units. A lot of newbies to electronics incorrectly assume that they are better because there are more people using them and because they are more expensive.

Exactly, paid "top" dollar for my FL 18 and used it 3 winters but have seen the light.... and my new 67 is on the charger as I write this......:coolgleam it really is the best of both worlds, graph and flasher built in one unit......get tired of watching one mode just switch it over to the other........and after just watching the built in sonar simulator I can't believe I waited 3 years to get one..........duh...

it's obvious what you have is the best, when you learn how to use it let me know and I'll be more than happy to tune that attitude up for ya:D

I agree with all of ya, it is what you get use to first. I love switching modes, and in this case im glad i got use to the lowrance first. but then again i guess it doesnt matter since the machine has both.
p.s. im glad ice fishing is this close its only dec 4th went golfing new years day a couple years ago.

Not the best by a long shot. If I wanted the best I would have gotten the 522 ice machine...it is my opinion though after using both that the 67 is far better than my FL18 could ever hope to be........but if I wouldn't have gotten the 67 I would have still been happy with the 18.........

And when your wallets full of money let me know, I would be more than happy to make the drive and lighten it up for ya:D How much per fish and what species

Yep. Lots of that around.

Well if you count the boat I had, the graphs I owned, the shanties I've owned probably about $100 for each walleye. Now thats a whole lot less than some people are spending, their totals push about $250 an eye. If I think about what I actually spend for fishing I'd probably stop........

Ya know if you caught more fish the ratio of how much per fish would go way down, to like maybe $50 per eye:lol::lol::lol:

Not so sure about that a few years ago I caught 61 eyes on the soft water and another dozen or so on the ice........still ended being $100 a fish..:dizzy: I'm trying however to get it to $250 a fish......

The reason why...??? I got my fl-8 as the basic unit years ago and at the time it was about top of the line. At that time I spent more than I could afford and it was worth it. In my case it is neither a case of lack of knowledge or unwillingness its more a matter of IT WORKS GREAT and unless you want to buy us all new electronics.....? I think Tommy means hes ready to fish you heads up and side by side. Sorry if I missunderstood your intent but it sounds like you are saying USE WHAT I USE OR YOU ARE WRONG! talk about peer pressure. Tommy I'd be glad to fish with you some time I think we could have a real good time and oh, maybe catch som fish.

Need to catch more fish wally-eye! I bought a new tricked out Lund 1850 Tyee last spring and I'm running $66.93 per fish. Hope to lower that when the ice is safe. Wife would kill me if I thought about a different flasher/graph:D

I got a 67 a few years ago and it has been a great thing for me. It is the first electronics i have ever had so i dont have much to compare it to. One nice thing is that i got a transducer that is mounted on my flat bottom and i use this fish finder year round.

You may want to read my posts without that chip on your shoulder, then you could use objectivity instead of anger to understand what I'm saying.

Thanks everyone for the info I guess i'm gonna have to buy my own i think my friends are tired of me "borrowing" theirs. I found it hard to fish without a flasher,(vex or lowrance) i guess it wasnt as fun, thats not good.

Heya Jack .....
ONE of the main reasons Wally-eye switched was last year while we smelt fished on Crystal Lake amongst 300-400 shanties running a very high percentage of flashers (not just 400 watt Vexilars) , I was out there listening to dozens of guys asking each other if they could see anything beside green flickers all around their dials.... "Are you getting all sorts of interference you can't get rid of with your noise reject?" was the common question.
I was sitting in my shack with Arty (Steely-Head) and while I had some random black speckles on my Lowrance LMS332c's display , I was largely responsible for the guys whining as I was BLOWING THEIR EYES OUT with 2400 watts of power.
:D
I had absolutley ZERO issue seeing my jigging spoons , ice flies or smelt , perch and other fish swimming thru the beam.
With running my unit in "manual" , a higher power output & lowering my sensitivity as well as adjusting my SCC and noise reject , I was able to tune out the extraneous 'flitter' from the "lesser" transmitters nearby.
:evilsmile
So I guess if your unit cannot discern what is happening below your shack , you are fishing blind.
Can I do it (like the old timers I learned from) ??
YES - and so can you.
Are you better & more efficient when you can see the targets and reactions on screen?
SURE.
Hey -
Better watch out for that tommy-n , Dan ... He's the best - just ask him , he'll tell ya.
