"A bottle in which chum is kept."
Cool. Who woulda thought?
Next question:
What's the purpose for using while fishing?
Is chumming used for all species?
Or all streams?
Or is it just a lake thing?
What would one use for "chum'?

Chumming is widely used, in both fresh and salt water, to rouse fish into biting. I guess you could say it's used to create a "feeding frenzy".
Typically (as in the case you're refering to) it's done on rivers with loose eggs (which is now against an idiotic law), a handfull will be thrown into a run, with one's bait followed behind. More often than not it will make fish that are otherwise not active bite (so I'm told by the renegade types that would do such a thing ).
I've seen it done on both lakes and rivers here in Michigan. Using anything from eggs, corn, waxworms, tuna fish.......
