I am from Macomb co. and I want to take my buddy from linden out ice fishing. I have all the toys and want to put him on some fish. however I don't know any of the lakes by waterford or anything. (meeting in the middle). any help would be very appreciated. I am not asking for the honey holes just a good lake.

Union lake is a decent fishery based on the people I've seen out there ice fishing every year. I have not had a chance to ice fish it yet, but I spent a few days on it this summer and the action was very good.

White lake is more towards 23 and I have heard good things about it you may try that lake

Cass is in the area, but it is a bigger lake -I have not had much luck there.....Yet that is;)

Pontiac lake and Maceday lake are both right in the heart of waterford-and both are near K&D outdoors- I'd recommend stopping in there for all of the up to date fishing info when the ice finally gets safe.

We have had ice across all of pontiac lake for well over a week but I havent had the motivation to walk the 40 ft out my back door to check the thickness yet. I expect it will be soon ready to give it a try. I drive by Union Lake daily and it is still completely open as it is very deep. I spend time ice fishing all of the lakes in the waterford area and will be happy to report once we get started. I'll start a thread when I start to see activity on Pontiac but until I can kick this nagging cold/flu I'm not going anywhere but staring out my back window.

those smaller lakes up in bald mountain sra have "safe ice" if you and your buddy can be supported by and feel safe on 3.5". i would imagine most of the small lakes in oakland county that do not have dams/control structures on them would be good to go for this weekend if you are looking to get out.

Union is one of the last lakes to freeze but it is a good lake to fish and there is Pontiac Lake.

How is Lakeville Lake? Frozen Yet? Never fished it and wonder if its even worth it. A friend of mine lives at 32 and Rochester and we might try it this weekend if it is frozen yet.

There was one guy out on Pontiac Lake today where it comes to M59, didn't look like he was fishing; perhaps just checking thickness, but he was out a good 100 yds from shore.

I was checking for open water so I could show someone an outboard motor they wanted to by from on Thanksgiving morning. I stopped by Lakeville. It had ice all across the boat launch cove. I didn't go down the steep ramp to check it out but I imagine it wasn't think enough at that time to safely go out. I haven't been back over that way to check it since.

That lake has many sudden depth changes so if you do go out, check the ice frequently as it may vary.

I fished Lakeville last year for the first time and caught a bunch of dinks:lol: Fun, but nothing to keep.

Is there a "secret" spot to go where the fish are bigger than a couple of inches? You can PM me if you want to keep it secret.

I fish out from the boat ramp and basically fished in that bay and around the small island as your going out.

I would try union if you have electronics and are a very good fisherman. it is a tough lake to find fish.you need to know that lake but there are some good perch and huge pike.Straight across from the launch in 6-8 foot of water for panfish or the dropoff for pike and walleye. also off the north west shore in 6-8 feet for perch. Pontiac is a better choice for small fish but steady off the beach. Macaday is another good splake and trout lake ,but its not a lake for a casual pan fish day.you have a long walk to the island where the better fishing is. wolverine lake in commerce has been stocked with walleye and has access off a dnr launch. good pike , crappie and gills.fish the drops off the sand bar near the island or all the way west by Benstein road for walleye. walled lake is another good access lake off mercer beach . plenty of pike and some gills and crappie . easy walk to fish on the 8-12 foot drop off off the restaurant parking lot or the foot of 14 mile..
I would stop by k.d. outdoors on m-59 and Williams lake and ask ken or his wife whats up. white lake is a sleeper if you can get access. Lake oakland too. big pike. lake angelius is the best of all ,but getting access is next to impossible. that should be a good start.
