Opening day is not known until the Feds approve the State's request. Sometime in August normally :(

I always experience stress over opening day. I have to setup my vacation days well in advance of the dates, so it really gets nerve wracking waiting for the announcement. The few times I wanted to alter my vacation plans, my bosses just layed the guilt trip on thick and heavy.

I usually use October 1st as a gauge, but this year that falls on a Sunday. I'm not sure the state would request the season start on a Sunday. At any rate, I took off September 29 - October 8 to be sure I get some opening week hunting done.

I also see a lot of geese during duck season and it is frustrating to have them work my *duck* decoys when they wouldn't even look at my setup in the early season. I am watching 3 different families of geese outside my office window right now. They are just starting to get the black feathers around their heads.

If I had to guess, I would say the northern and middle zone will open Oct 7 and the southern zone would open Oct 14.

IT'S ONLY A GUESS!!!!! ;)

For the north zone duck opener 99% of the time it seems to start on the first Saterday in October, As for the Goose season I think anymore, the Feds have to wait for the Southern states to vote on when and how long the goose season will be for Michigan
