Hey everyone,

Picked up a handful of ice fishing equipment last year and did a little bit of fishing on my lake with no sucess.

I am going to read up as to how to ice fish for walleye, but in the meantime, looking to see what lakes around me a good for walleye fishing?

Cass? Orchard? Union?

Thanks
Dave

Union Lake does produce some walleyes. I've taken a few every winter and I've seen a few 6 to 10lbs taken also. If you can find the hump in the lake you should be in good shape. As far as Cass and Orchard goes I couldn't tell ya, I've never fished them.

I've taken a few eyes out of Cass, but never through the ice. I've never had much luck ice fishing that lake at all to be exact.
I have caught a few eyes in Union night fishing though-This will be the 1st year I get out to ice fish Union and I have heard several people recommend the underwater humps (north side) on that lake but it seems like most of the people that fish the lake are all there bunched up right by the public launch or the (North west side) which is not really that close to the underwater humps-based on a lake map. I plan on making a few trips out there this year and plan on staying mobile and generally away from the crowd.
I've never ice fished for the eyes but last year I caught one on some light tackle and a smaller jig right after the sun went down I'm thinking time of day is key.

People target crappies and some hammer handles in the NW corner and by the launch.

I always wondered what everyone was doing there at all hours of the night:lol: That is a bowl shapped hole that is around 30fow correct??? Makes sense on the crappie -people must be doing well there based on the traffic.

I hear there are some decent perch in Union too-I have not came across any keeps, but I have caught a handfull of dinks at a time so the big ones gotta be in there somewhere.

I talked to a fisherman several years go that said that was a good nighttime spot for walleyes. But late...2 a.m.ish :)

I think orchard takes a while to ice up. It also takes a while to thaw too. It's fairly deep for an smaller inland lake. I've only caught bass, perch and pike there but I have only been out a handfull of times and never on the hardwater. Try asking this in the ice-fishing forum.
